Australia Free Trade Deal?

I have no doubt that there is environmental damage being caused everywhere. It is happening in the UK as houses are built endlessly as well. I see no difference between watching portion of Surrey going under tarmac or someone in Australia with a Komatsu bulldozing scrub or native bush to make farmland. What point are you making?

if your happy for that to happen abroad then obviously you should
be agreeable to deregulation in the UK for farmers to create whatever
size, shape paddocks and fell all useless trees that get in there way.

I don't think anyone is happy that the environment is being 'mined' for the benefit of mankind. But it is how mankind survives and flourishes at present. If you have alternative suggestions I'd be happy to hear them.

Let me make one point though. I don't view a man in a Komatsu in Australia any different than I do the dairy farmer down the road running a slurry tanker or a mower or a forage wagon or a man in an 80 tonne excavator in a quarry. It's all environmental impact however you want to categorise it.

I don't like to break up a party but the UK has already offered a free trade deal, albeit with 15 years to phase out tariffs and quotas. 15 years is just the UK's initial bargaining position of course and will be reduced substantially during negotiations.

Mankind survives and flourishes mainly on cheap food which
is detrimental to the enviroment.Just look at the amount of soya
that is imported for animal feed that could be replaced with home grown
proteins .The government wouldn't like it as food prices would have to go up
to cover the longer time getting animal protein to the market place.

Isn't the part of soya that is fed to animals just a byproduct of what is fed to humans?
Would it be better to throw it away?

You say soya is bad for the environment, which means that anyone in the UK buying soya for animal feed is therefore guilty of environmental damage because they are financing the cultivation of it. The UK livestock industry is therefore directly responsible for aiding in the destruction of the rainforest/cerrado and encouraging soya cultivation?

Well it's a global problem so I'd be happy with banning the use of imported
soya here and any meat imports fed on soya from abroad.
You might not be so happy though when you go to the supermarket
to buy your chicken.

Nothing wrong with soy beans as a crop. I believe they stack up well environmentally if direct drilled? Its just that SOME of the crop is grown on land that has been cleared of forestry. Plenty grown in countries like America too though.

Ah yes GM soya in the states.
Where can I get some seed? :D
Edit
Oh silly me we're not allowed to grow GM soya in the UK.
