Not so down here with ABP and Farmers Fresh were both under £5.00 and I pointed out that this was lower than it needed to be as the live price for 40kg plus lambs was ahead of the dead.
What is your deadweight price?

Where is your nearest ABP plant @Frank-the-Wool ?

They were on £5.05 on Monday for lambs.

Ref live v dead, for the last 3/4 weeks then dead has been a good £12/15 head better than liveweight for lambs unless you are selling the very top end lambs!

I have bought a lot of cattle from your area in the past and I liked them, they always did us well and I wish I could still have them but they are down a notch or two. No offence.
We are increasingly using more friesian on our dairy, as are many, so with a good AI bull, preferably from 'up' country, might have to raise your money up. But, l would say there are a lot of beef stock bulls, running with dairies, that would be better hung up, in a cold room.

Weaners were dear again and the fella that I thought was pushing the price up last week wasn't there so I owe him an apology.
Michael sells a run of cattle from time to time, sometimes in the stores but usually in the weaners. I think they might be down as Lockerbie auction, they tend to be Scottish batches but I don't know what the financial arrangements are.
Fella that was pushing price up last week would be same fella that was pushing it up today....and he'd be holding a gavel!

a lot of milk men just want a cow in calf they couldnt give 2 fecks about what the calf looks like , but if its got a white head its another £.
there seems to be a block on paying more than £12/1300 for a bull, which is understandable, when you think of how easily things can go wrong, a bull with 150 cows, in a yard, as is common, is very different to a bull running with 40 or so, out side, in a field. We have had a few 'mishaps' over the years, we now AI for longer, with beef, as fertility increases, less need for a stock bull, our next one, is home bred, 3/4 beef, and looks good, but his calves, will not fetch top money.

i bet they wont!
but hopefully wont be many, as we have a tight block, he's there, to catch the few no-hopers, and a few that repeated more than twice. In fairness, he looks a right chunky lad, and his growth rate is very impressive. We can always sell his offspring down west, those cornish lads, like a bargain, better find my tin hat now !

South Molton today :

Prime lambs UP a massive 33.1ppk on the week!

Despite my above comments deadweight needs to be at least £5.35ppk to keep up with the liveweight trade the last day or so!

you change your tune more than the juke box in my local pub although on occasion have very valid points. Reality is sometimes one will beat the other but there is no denying from anyone that the transparent market system sets the trend for prices, both live and dead…
