Keep it simple - use a good quality (e.g. Honda) generator to run for 1-2 hours each day to charge up laptops, power tool batteries and a 12v leisure battery for lighting. ("Leisure" type is important, not car battery).

You /could/ add a second battery and an inverter to give yourself more reserves, but above is probably the easiest way. It sounds like solar isn't an option, and hydro is complicated. A generator is very simple for anyone to use.

You'll have to use gas/wood for heating and hot water.

NB Generators are valuable and prone to theft.

This is a joke is it not.
Lofoten Islands off north Noway in the arctic ocean.
The fact it is an island doesn't mean there can't be a mountain cabin as the highest point of the central island is 964 meters. The OP also doesn't state that the cabin is on Lofoten so could be mainland Norway. A lot of Swedes I know live in an urban area but have cabins in remote areas, okay they aren't Norwegian but could be comparable in this instance.

I don't think a discussion on whether I lie or not is relevant anyways. Just wanted to check if I had made a mistake or broken a rule somewhere. Judged by the answers there is both competence and interest in alternative power supplies in areas of the world with limited daylight, so i still believe I am not causing any problems.
