No need for a trailer test anymore?

Years ago I was passenger in a six wheeler with turntable drag on the back and he reversed it into the docks at the mart while he was arguing like hell with his transport manager at the time on one of his two phones he had to carry
Thought it was quite impressive considering he was the only one that could reverse it

I’ve already seen a person on social media, who failed her trailer test 3 times, over the moon that she can now tow her horse box. There’s a reason she failed 3 times and now she’s going to be towing livestock!

There’s a lot of folk out there that can barely drive their car let alone drive it with something swinging off the back of it. Not sure if this is a good thing or not really.🤔

Why did she fail?

I’ve got an apprentice, he’s booked to do his course and test on Monday.

Training provider phoned today asking if wanted to cancel. We decided to leave it as is and for him to do the course and test. We got a training fund for him to use, so it’s no skin off our nose, but also I can’t see a negative with him doing it.

If he does it, he has a record of official training, so if something happens down the line, I’ve shown due diligence as an employer and the guy is trained to a standard.

I think there will be insurance companies looking at this in horror, and fair chance THEY will be the ones who keep the training providers in business with certificates of competence.
Like the car driving test, training only teaches you how to pass the test, not how to drive.

Why not allow those with 7.5 (8.250) licenses to drive an artic whilst they are at it ?

Yes plus they’ve done away with class 2. A real kick in teeth for those of us paid for it. I know lads that have done trailer tests and class 2 in the last month 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈
As I understand it they're not doing away with Class 2 (C), they're just removing the requirement to hold Class 2 before going for Class 1 (+E), likewise with the 7.5 ton (C1) category.

I cant really see this solving the driver shortage. Alot of people already have their class1 licenses but the pay is crap and vosa/dvsa are a bunch of nobs, so they would rather work in a shop etc.

Get rid of some of the jobsworth dvsa workers and pay a proper wage and people will stop working in aldi and start driving again

Some of the posts that vosa and the police put on facebook are laughable, no wonder no one wants to drive for a living with people like this.
