No need for a trailer test anymore?

I would suspect it’s just not enough people who want to do it to make it viable to test for it?
Another option that would help free up DVSA examiner resource to conduct vocational tests would be to consider removing the requirement for car drivers to take a B+E test (car and trailer) if they want to tow a trailer. DVSA currently conducts 30,000 B+E (car and trailer) tests a year. We have seen a steady increase in volumes during the pandemic as the public has adopted caravanning as an alternative to holidays abroad.

no, its the examiners they are short of! this is to try and get them out of the driver shortage crisis

Absolute disgrace. Where do I claim my £400 back? All the hassle before I decided to pay for test when I could pop with the trailer. Whole setup is a mess. I can’t drive a tiddly Transit minibus at work but I can drive an artic!!! (Did C and then C+E later on after the B+E 14 yrs ago) not to mention the cost of doing class 2 which is now not needed…..

I’ve got an apprentice, he’s booked to do his course and test on Monday.

Training provider phoned today asking if wanted to cancel. We decided to leave it as is and for him to do the course and test. We got a training fund for him to use, so it’s no skin off our nose, but also I can’t see a negative with him doing it.

If he does it, he has a record of official training, so if something happens down the line, I’ve shown due diligence as an employer and the guy is trained to a standard.

I think there will be insurance companies looking at this in horror, and fair chance THEY will be the ones who keep the training providers in business with certificates of competence.
More likely red tractor (for agriculture anyway).

Said the same to a mate earlier in the week.

Power Co's and similiar big outfits are hot on training with a CoC required for just about everything.

Good on you for helping the youngster too, better for you and for him.

not sure insurance will really care? think everyone over egging that a bit, did they all sigh with relief when the test came in as they were concerned about people driving with trailers???

like anything its experience, the more the better

having a piece of paper means you did it well on the day but could be shite at it...

Well I’m looking forward to DVSA crediting my back account with my test fee!!
🤣 but the small print says - tough sh!t 🤣

If you had previously passed a car and trailer driving test

You cannot get a refund or compensation for any training that you took to help you prepare to take the test.

Training, imo, is never wasted. And like you say due diligence down the line 👍

If it's because they want more lorry drivers why don't they upgrade the trailer lisence for everyone who already has one to a class 2 license. It would be fair for everyone then and they would get a lot of extra drivers really quickly.
Everyone’s just going to do artic tests now and you’ll be covered for everything be pointless doing a test for anything else

I didn't mean do the test just anyone who has a trailer lisence gets to drive class 2 automatically. That would be fair for the ones that have paid to do the trailer test and help out with the lorry driver shortage. There's a lot of pee'd off people on social media about this that have done their trailer test.
Anyone going to do a class 2, could still go and do a class 1 anyway and get to drive everything.
