There were healthy stock culled on welfare grounds because they couldn't be moved. No we haven't. We've had contiguous culls as part of a disease control programme. This welfare cull has nothing to do with animal health at all

We've never had a cull of healthy livestock ever. Processors have refused to take more than 75% of contracted pigs due to labour shortages . This isn't of pig farmers making

None of that is relevant this weekin days of yore in norfolk there were pig markets at norwich...kings lynn and two at a little market town called aylsham......the last sentence of 'what we want' is a bit rich given what the current 'pig farmers' did to all those that used to use these marts......i'm afraid they're getting a dose of their own medicine.....the brexit vote was 4 1/2 yrs ago so why didn't the industry start training/recruiting ready?
where's the banner 'we want our cheap migrant labour back so we can continue to vertically integrate?'
None of that is relevant this week
it’s not the farmer’s issue but they’ve been left holding the baby
As @Suffolk Serf stated it's the independents that are being squeezed first and last in all of this . If you don't want to acknowledge a crisis fair enough just don't come on the threadof course it is jp....it's 'chickens coming home to roost'.......the industry made no preparation for the eu labour going home and big boys have continued to expand by predating on the smaller......cept the smaller arn't so small anymore
i'm not even sure the eu workers would come back anyway
How you can say that I don't know. It's entirely relevant and the cause of the current crisis.None of that is relevant this week

I actually care about those and their mental health who are at their wits end. To have anything else than that at the forefront of your mind puts you in the John Redwood theory of it's just markets etc etc
his balls are well and truly been squeezed by herDon't forget the vegan with an agenda who is putting these words in his mouth.
Hundreds thousands healthy animals slaughtered under so called contiguous cull , don’t you defend the lies that told plenty healthy stock slaughtered before in this country , perfectly healthy dairy bull calves is another. No we haven't. We've had contiguous culls as part of a disease control programme. This welfare cull has nothing to do with animal health at all
The problem is now.
Solutions are needed now.
Dealing with the causes and the rights and wrongs of it is for later debate so that it never happens again.
never said we shouldn'tLook I'm too busy to be arguing about your semantics today. Fact we as a concerted industry should be assisting with the argument to Government that this is a very real prospect of a euthanasia programme unassociated with health

I do have a clueAt least in most of those cases (shot calves in TB lockdown excepted) there was financial compensation. In the current plight of the pig farmers, there is no market for those pigs, the farmer will have completely run out of space, be running out of money, patience and options.
Really, sometimes, you are just better not posting if you haven't a frigging clue.
How could any industry prepare when no one knew what the deal was actually going to be... 12 months ago alot of sectors still didnt have a clue how it was going to effect their business and supply chains and whenever any person or news outlet tried to warn of such shortcomings it was all classed as "project fear".
I wonder who put those words in his mouthThat’s a Vegan Mantra
Very very worrying
The pig farmer I spoke of is independent, as I said he is still getting his pigs away up to now at leastAs @Suffolk Serf stated it's the independents that are being squeezed first and last in all of this . If you don't want to acknowledge a crisis fair enough just don't come on the thread
