Yes I’d agree but he is best mates with a bricklayer I’ve worked with for 10 years who gave me glowing references when he was asked, which he was.if I’d been asked to pay for materials up front when I first met the chap 3/4 months ago I’d have had no issue indeed when he cancelled last weeK,the day before he should have come here there was no mention of it.was the tone of the txt I did not take kindly too.he should have called really.

Text is a pita - I completely agree with you on that one Nick, and something I too personally dislike even from alternate trades dealing with myself, but it is alas the shitty modern way that people feel is relevant form of communication.

Under the additional information, it seems very strange the plumber got cold feet on you at the 11th hour - but to be honest, nothing surprises me these days and is why I ask for part payment up front for larger jobs and full payment on completion in my T&C's with any client, as cash flow is key to the survival of any business and having to chase idiots for payments is time wasting and not acceptable imho. If they do not want to do it - fine, there is a lot more out there that is waiting.

Not directed at you here - but far too many people these days believe they can get work knowing all to well they have no intention of paying, and anything one can can do to mitigate this is to be respected personally. Too many people owing can mean your business is at risk or you carry too much debt and constantly chasing the rabbit to clear it up which is a hidden cost.

Two hours on the phone to BT about reducing our broadband/phone monthly payment. Just before lunch the price had come down to nearly half of what we'd been paying, I said we'd think about it (didn't want to sound too keen) and rang them again after lunch. For a company that records calls etc, they had no record of the reduced offer and we had to go through the whole palaver again, apparently they use the Las Vegas quote system, every time they request a price for monthly payment, it comes up with a different amount !
Had the same with BT... 2 hours to thrash out a deal. Couple of questions I asked her I knew there was a blag on her behalf.
Overall it looked an OK deal. She'd ring me next day. No call... EE on new customer deal and the usual end of contract Sky blag... and all is well.

This year's Sky had doubled for renewal but it went down to 75% of the new price if signed now.

Quick Blag and it's down 10% of before.

Ahhhh I know them well, they always turn up on fencing jobs right a bait time and bore you to death that they have done miles more fencing than you and they did it all with a hammer
They then claim how busy they are but turn up everyday you work there

I had a phone call today asking about caravan storage, I apologetically explained that we were currently full, he cut me off mid sentence to shout “you fooking d!ckhead!”
I put the phone down, I hope such a nice man finds somewhere for his caravan!
Then 10 minutes later I’m topping a hedge and get a torrent of abuse and caught between arguing neighbours!
Sod them all

Come our exhibition at the NEC, it's free just register online and bring your ticket.
But if you want you car back it's £16 to get out of the carpark .
I wouldn't have begrudged paying for entry, but why can't they just be honest about it up front.
Nothing about paying that much for parking when you book.
