Bet there are banks along watercourses, and edges of coarse fishing ponds that are as contaminated with lead pellets from fishing as former clay pigeon shooting ranges are with shot.
could be but that's not like injecting it into a meat cut is it.
Just seems simple and daft to me, when everyone else supplying meat goes to great lengths.................

The cynic in me says the BBC aren’t really interested in whether there is lead shot in the game bird or not, but that just showing the story sets a seed in the publics mind not to eat game at all just to be on the safe side.
Quite apart from the BBc bash,
with regards to this issue, when we are all battling to keep meat on the menu for all sorts of reasons, its not really helping is it.

Journalism has always been like that as long as i can remember anyway, a story needs to sell.

but this isn't about pc point scoring its about one having standard for food production, not double standards just because there's a lot of big moneyed people who shoot.

why does journalism matter ?

the point is lead should not be accepted in food , No whys and wherefores.

bit of round steel wont hurt so much instead of wasting the meat, i suppose but its certainly not what meat producers /meat industry do/do es ...,inject metal into their produce they sell of any shape or size.

i think you have taken my point the wrong way.

I agree with you entirely on the lead shot in food. It’s not acceptable. There are alternatives.

It’s just that, in my opinion, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there is another hidden agenda we have come to expect from journalists these days. That’s all.

With the BBC and Countryfile it may well be the “Packham” influence and his determination to do away with Game shooting 😡

I should probably be more concerned. We eat Pheasant/Partridge shot with lead at least once a week all year around. 🤦
I’m not fully convinced on the ballistics of steel shot versus lead at the moment and am also unsure about suitability in my guns.

My awd mate is 83 and has eaten lead shot game all his life as you at least once a week and doesn’t ail a thing, but he doesn’t eat any processed food either, surely there must be some research on lead poisoning due to ingesting it? I’ve always lived in houses with a lead rising main no one seems worried about that.

The Ancient Romans ate from lead dishes which poisoned them.
White lead in make up poisoned the wearer.

Lead water pipes are only safe when water flows regularly, and doesn't accumulate lead from the pipe. We always run the tap for several minutes before drawing drinking water, and never drink the bathwater.

Did they not flavour their wine with lead as well?
