Will Putin invade the Ukraine ?

It is possible the Russians have bombed the Ukrainian cell phone network or the Ukrainians have turned them off and shut down their telephone network. I would imagine the Russians may have hit TV/news stations and possibly even power stations so there could be a power blackout.
Still plenty of phones working, there has been an appeal not to post info of the good guys.

Zelensky is misguided in giving weapons to anyone who asks for them. This effectively makes everyone a military target and the civilian losses will be much greater.
I understand the logic, and symbolic gesture but I don't agree with it.

It makes all civilians legitimate targets, and armed but untrained and unskilled civilians will only pose a danger to themselves and each other.

One could argue that civilians in the area are a target anyway so what difference does them carrying a weapon make?

Does the Ukraine have national service? If so, a lot of their population are probably quite acquainted with firearms.

This is very much like an Irish problem .Half the Ukraine is pro Russian half is pro West. They can, for simplicity’s sake, be divided along religious lines ( Catholic/ Uniate pro West, Orthodox pro Russian. Also east and west sides of the country). For now the pro East side has been silenced, with the help of people like Victoria Nuland of the Us State Department, and the Maidan revolution. The last 8 years since then have not been good for Ukraine, but it has been good for NATO countries who have sold them heaps of military equipment they can ill afford. Has anyone looked closely at their infrastructure? The place was a disaster before this invasion. Roads, airports, schools, everything is a mess. If the West REALLY CARED about the Ukraine, money would have been spent on that, not weapons. The stuff they have been sold is garbage. All that supposed ‘training’ is about as effective as the training of the Afghan army by the US.
The Ukraine has descended in the last 8 years into the kind of mess Russia was in in the ‘90s: gangsters and Oligarchs are running the country. Don’t try and start a business there because the minute its making money some thug will take it from you. Every taxi driver is longing to get out. This is what Western intervention has done. It stinks. And now many of you want even more destruction. Finish the lot off.
How many of you ever spent one second of your life thinking about Ukraine 10 years ago? I bet very few.But it was always there and then some smart aleck in the US state department realised that getting at Ukraine was the best way to get at Russia.: Mitt Romney , in the2012 presidential election ,said that Russia was the USA’s greatest enemy. Evryone was shocked by this, at home and abroad, because there was no tension, no animosity any more. But it was the beginning. And now we are seeing the end of that policy. I personally don’t think it will end well, but those of you who have investments in armaments should do well.
Many countries around the world live in peace and political stability, despite a mix of different ethnic heritages.

English and French speaking Canada is a pretty good example.

If you arm civilians at least put them in uniform, innocent youngsters etc popping their heads up at the wrong moment will be instant targets!

It simply makes the mindless slaughter of innocent people far more likely.
Don't think his moral compass works like that , he would shoot or bomb any one in the way regardless so they may aswell have some means of fighting back , they may just keep chipping a few invaders off here and there from their cover and help to bring the moral down of the ruskys a bit more than it already is !

Not sure inferring Russia and legitimate targets really belong in the same sentiment.

Aye, very true. It simply gives the Putin propaganda justification every time a Ukrainian civvie is killed... "they were armed and attacking us".

If/when it comes to a "resistance" guerrilla war, the distribution of weapons will be useful. But between now and then, impassioned and emboldened civvies are going to fancy their chances - but unfortunately get themselves injured or killed.

Looking at what's happening in Ukraine either the Russians are taking this pretty slow & steadily or they are nowhere near as powerful as we are led to believe, compare this invasion with the shock & all that was unleashed on Iraq by the West all those years ago which is making this look pretty amateurish at best.

I was surprised to hear the Russians had taken Chernobyl power plant. I didn't think any of it was still in use. Just going near the place and churning up the mud is foolhardy as it will be contaminated all the same and end up on their vehicles, clothing and equipment. You don't want to be ingesting or breathing it.
