Aside from the safety implications gas bottles belong to the distribution company, you only pay for the use of them. Scrapping them would be theft.Can old gas bottles be scrapped?

scrap yard said as long as they were pierced I could take them in, I.e no longer able to hold any compressed material.
I suspect the ones in the pile in the pic are the same all pierced so can no longer gold compressed gas of any sort.
