Just an idea for the guys with no fert how would it be if you baught urea and disolved it and sprayed wheat every 10 days with 8 kg of urea in 200 liters of water per hktr .
There is much to be gained from such an approach but unfortunately no fact tested trials to support such an idea. Would in the past have been counter productive to sales and so it goes into the muck and mystery file .
But I’ve done it /doing it and I’m going to do more

A lot of people haven't got any N on at all yet with the wind and rain! Imagine trying to get round the farm every 10 days! Remember the cost of red diesel!

Kind of people who’d sell their grandma. Government should really a export ban on it in times like these.
Should we ban exports of beans as well at the moment as they are worth more abroad than domestically? What about Malt barley export earlier this year, should that have been banned to protect our domestic consumers!?! I don’t of course have the answers, it just i a slippery slope when you ban free trade on one item and not others….. the knock on effects often have unforeseen consequences….
We need imported fertiliser to supply our domestic needs….. therefore need free trade

not fun times for anyone.

I think there will be a lot of rip-off merchants offering muck and mystery to unsuspecting victims this year too!

Sadly a great opportunity for snake oil salesmen.

Fair enough not ban it but surely some countries are steering more their own way to protect home supply.

I believe some are banning export of grains, so farms have lower commodity prices but still exposed to global N prices, a brutal consequence of good intentions to lower domestic food prices.
Short sighted yes, but keeping domestic food prices down.

The long term is simply a series of short terms, bolted together.

Heard yesterday of lads who had cattle meal ordered being told they could only get half of it because they meal companies grain contract has went to force majeure. Also hear rumours of barley being high 300s in Belfast...

I would suggest they are blaming the grain supplier but in fact they are pulling contracts them selves because that haven't bought enough grain or straights forward to cover the cake contracts signed I have heard of no grain seller calling force majeure yet but several mills doing so.
I have 11 loads of wheat booked out in the next ten days sold quite a bit below spot price but will do nothing but honour my contracts.

If the mills are calling it then any purchases associated with that contract should have an option to pull out🥴I know it won’t happen.

Do you take into account missing out on the increased yield with the probable higher prices for product
asuming 1000 per tonne could be 1300 an

the data 50 kg n costs £150 the yield reduction is .4 tonnes per ha for n 50 kg below optimum yield
at £300 per tonne £ 120 a loss of £30 but there are fixed cost from harvesting extra grain

at £1330 the loss is £80

at current prices 250 wheat for nov fertiliser 1000 then 70 kg reduction nearer to optimum profit

i have grown more 10 tonne crops from under 200kg than over and plenty of 8 tonne or lower crops from 240 kg n or more

i am moving feed wheat at 217 sold a month ago

current offer is 297 for may movement

if feed merchants are pulling deals made before the war in ukraine they should have fixed their buying prices when they made the sales then they were obviously gambling on grain prices falling
they have not got their risk management sorted
the last 50 years the grain merchants that had poor risk management have gone bust
