What rate would you DD spring oats at, does lowering the rate help to stop them going flat

last year 115kg/ha DD. suffered a bit with gout or frit fly. thought they were too thin, but didnt fall over and filled out well.

drilled some today at 140kg/ha. slots not closing very well and lots of rooks about. will try and roll tomorrow

Never grown oat before but was thinking of sowing at 180kg/ha but will pull the seed rate back a bit

180kg/ha last year, looked good but 48 bushel, so maybe to thick

+1, too higher seed rate = very poor bushel, we are dd sowing today at 135kg/Ha on medium soil, not the prettiest seedbed as baked out on top and a bit too damp underneath, but it’s dry overhead and warm so needs to go in, it will be rolled steadily when ready, probably Monday, then for some gentle rain later in the week to settle it in.
Oh, growth reg and not too much N help stop them going flat, they really scavenge the ground so don’t overdo it

How much N do you normally put on spring oats? First time growing spring oats here instead of winter oats. Had contractor dd them at 170kg/ha few days ago into fairly heavy ground

125kg/ha with Isabel. Can’t seem to get the bushel weight with higher seed rates here.

Mine were Isabel last year, have some Merlin to try this year along side the Isabel

140-150 for DD 120-130 for cultivated soils. dont go too high you en up with crap bushel

First time for me.

DD, average 150kg/ha.

Using vari rate seed so hopefully will end up about right population.

My unknown is the failed osr had it's bit of n in the autumn.

Wonder how much is there now.

Hope you did not use Kerb on you OSR ? Oats wont like it !

We put 100kg/N/Ha, third in the seedbed two thirds when you can see the tramlines
