I will assume it’s the dairy guys doing that. If you can get youngstock away them milking another cow per acre giving over £3k of milk it’s surely doable. Not good for the beef/sheep guys in the area but such is life.
Yeah that makes sense. But the upland sheep only grass I spoke of earlier has me scratching my head. £165/ac for summer grass for ewes and lambs? They must have much better sheep than me!

It’s too much. If there’s running about to add on (which there will be) then that adds up too.
Sometimes these grass parks are a let out for folk in which case the cost is spread out through the rest of the business. If it was a profitable business decision then more likely someone would come and take the lot it’s usually many people taking a bit each

So this is my point. With BPS being removed the rest of the business is going to be a lot less profitable. So, logically, the rents will have to fall. Otherwise, where is the cash going to come from?

But they might value extending the dairy grazing platform or silage land at £300 at home , the increase in fuel hauling a 20 ton crop of maize home could soon be a significant proportion of the sheep rent .

Well it’s not really the circumstances I’m thinking of but you could be also right in what you are saying
I’ve been short of grass in the spring then just had to crack on and take some grass or other times had sheep on winter keep which would be later let as grass parks but had to take it for the summer as I had eaten it off to late for the landlord
There’s all sorts of alterations in these calculations at the moment and most of them are difficult to judge going forward

I suppose the real answer is we know this cash is being pumped into the system but where does it end up? That’s the real question and answer?
It could be anywhere from supermarkets to landlords to machinery dealers the list is long

Then there’s tax? If you are farming profitability pre bps then why pay it back again in tax if you can buy some machinery to make your faming enterprise more profitable, easier, save time, less worries of breakdowns…….
