Would depend on your calving profile too? We’re mostly autumn calving so as said above come this stage of year and with grass past peak we dry off we never buffer feed the cows outside once they are out night and day that’s it all they get is grass used to bring them in at night but find them much easier work that they are out full time

Two cows to the acre was always considered to be a base line.

But being realistic, sometimes that's comfortable, sometimes it's impossible.
With good soil fertility and land that doesn't suffer much from drought or rain, you could go a bit stronger but that stocking rate would be manageable by most people.

I guess you eould need the same again for silage ground?
You would need most of it, anyway. There's guys near me doing similar. Highly stocked on the grazing platform and taking any surplus off early as bales and adding some back to slow the rotation.

Others would always supplement either zero grazed grass, bales or through diet feeders.

I suppose it depends on your appetite for risk on whatever block of ground you're using and how happy you are to be driving tractors all day at higher stocking rates?

Some guys would make a point of always having grazeable covers available for zero grazing on some block of an outfarm.

How long is a piece of string? Depends weather your going to graze full time, graze part time or full tmr all year round.
we don’t cut 1 acre per cow 1st cut but that’s just us, everyone has different ways of doing things we make use of the grass other ways, by having cows out full time as well as cows on zero grazed grass too

We'd be at 50-55% first cut in addition to bales from the grazing. 25-35% second cut depending on reserves. 15% closed for 3rd but that would be mostly used as deferred grazing for the cows or drys.

Single block growing 12+t/ha.
Housing for cows at night starts mid Sept to possibly mid April, start of May. Most cattle fully housed by mid October, we've a long winter in n antrim. You must be alot further south

About as far as you can get before falling off🤣

We'd be very focused on grass quality and intakes but wouldn't be tightly stocked for a few more years. Suits us atm to get them out as soon as they calve for a few hours, twice a day, and full time as often as conditions suit.

The plan would be full time by early/mid May and in by night from mid October to keep some grass in the diet as long as possible.
