At a guess runaway machinery prices, high rents, expensive fert chem and seed will probably the starting point. The standing value of farm businesses will fall, everything else is relative.

if your in fife you wont find a decent milk buyer possibly only yew tree, haulage is more profitable than farming if you have the funds and skills to set up, i may well increase sheep too and im letting land for peas, spuds and turnips now so im fairly well covered now if it gets cut up here
What are you basing that statement on?

I DIDNT MATE… I was a firm remainer……. I couldn’t believe that every farmer at the time was like let’s get out let’s get out…….! Makes me laugh now it seems they all say I can’t believe these other farmers voted to leave 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
Apologies - I hadn’t handn’t realised I was responding to a fellow remainer who likely abhors the way Johnsons 80 seat majority achieved with less than 43.5 % of the votes managed to railroad parliament into accepting the 52/48 % “advisory” 2016 referendum by illegal means for the sake of tax advantages for those who would never have to change their lifestyle even in the event of wealth taxes over £10m

Basically back in the depression the difference between a good farmer & a successful farmer was the good farmers who farmed well, maintained & drove on unfortunately went out of business where as the successful farmers sat quiet & weathered the storm until it come good (And it will come good) Thinks this may be the same now over the nxt few years with the total disregard government has for farming and tbh I can’t help but agree with him……
This is all true ,but I dont think they had a government othering £500 ha as mentioned earlier to landowners for setaside (then of course there is the potential for carbon/ phosphate offsets too ) effectively stifling anyone who can operate in the new trading environment - so those who survive will not be the same hands on skilled , resourceful, flexible , practical opportunists who could sort of make it work somehow .
It will be the opposite sadly .
