And back again. We have hidden away from the difficult parts of agricultureNot necessarily. Society as moved from the country to the city
May have swung for him if hed said that to me todayWas chatting to someone in the village about the weather, said possible looking at loosing money due to losses if milling premium losses. He said well you'll get money off the government for that
Said to the one mouthy tosser on Thurs
" you need to realise that the reason you are able to be vastly overweight is because farmers like me work hard to provide you with the goods to get like it "
....don't think I made a friend there but most a had a good laugh .
I've had a similar conversation with a senior agricultural commissioner in the EU who didn't understand that agriculture is seasonal. Also I introduced a (supposedly) highly regarded professor of agricultural economics to a "strange machine", a.k.a. a mouldboard plough.why dont you harvest on a dry day
I thought you only caught the tail end of a shower this last week by the photos you put on.....sadly the same conversation came up Thurs night in the watering hole . I mentioned the difficulties concerning the weatherand the concensus was " don't you farmers ever get fed up with complaining , ite either the weather the prices or the Gvt"
"Your so wrong "I said " it's not either the weather ,the prices or the Gvt ...its all three at the same time "
..but I am conscious we are forever complaining .....and I try not too ,
We have healthy livestock plenty of grass and the prospect of good weather after Tuesday this week .....now then ...if only fuel wasn't so dear
Ignorance is bliss .Bloody farmers always thinking the country owes them a living.
The one I love to hear is “we don’t-set the price for what we produce”
you are so lucky as the only buisness that can with in a few pounds tell me what you’re going to get for rape wheat etc in 12 months time.
Every other industry has competition, local haulier to us with 40 lorries doesn’t know if he’ll still be going this time next week as there’s nothing stopping another haulage firm undercutting his rates and nicking all his work.
Same with the local joinery firm, another joinery firm could do the same to them..
you have no laws to stick to like the haulage industry does regarding vehicle weights etc.
you have no H&S laws to worry about, Yes I do know that you have laws for both of them but you know you’ll never get pulled up for them.
Count your selves lucky.
Pardon my phrase but utter rubbishBloody farmers always thinking the country owes them a living.

Local farmers around here are working their staff 18/19/20 hours a day, no breaks. Tractors and trailers running overweight. Bald tyres etc etc And still you moan.
Count your selves lucky.

On another thread on here there's a discussion about planting bird seed and taking 730 quid a hectare each year for planting it and doing nothing, and another thread saying half of the BPS payment landed in the bank account this morning, are the "boys" wrong? All the boys I work with on building sites reckon we are getting paid for nothing and getting huge set aside cheques too.most think the same
nick...
The words “child’s benefit” come to mind.On another thread on here there's a discussion about planting bird seed and taking 730 quid a hectare each year for planting it and doing nothing, and another thread saying half of the BPS payment landed in the bank account this morning, are the "boys" wrong?
The "public" get the details wrong about most things they are not directly involved in.
Farmers are public too and it's painfully obvious from TFF that they get a lot of things wrong about others.
Trouble is 2 years from now even those who have seen Clarksons shows will have all got bored, jumped onto something else and forgotten.I think it depends a bit on where you are. Last year when we opened the farm up for Lambing Sunday we had people offering more than the entrance fee saying that we were a “good cause” as if we were some kind of charity. I can’t say that I was comfortable with that. Clarkson has definitely opened a lot of people’s eyes to the financial realities that some of us are facing.
Which is why it’s up to us to explain to the public what we do and why.Trouble is 2 years from now even those who have seen Clarksons shows will have all got bored, jumped onto something else and forgotten.
