Brilliant. Why is it that "progress" always seems to make life worse than it was before? A landline in a powercut can be literally a lifeline for some, particularly older people.
And BT Openreach will tell you use a mobile phone, carefully forgetting that the damn things don't work half the time out in the countryside!

Like many, I have to use wifi calling on my mobile.

That’s the reality. People who don’t have fibre cos they’re out in the country also have crap mobile signal. Cos they’re out in the country. But if you’re the CEO of a massive company and you’ve got 5G coming out of your urban ears you don’t give a toss about the unfortunates.

Radio 4 done a big investigation into this and it’s failed miserably for elderly people with care lines and emergency fob systems. So much so copper lines have been reinstated and now these people can officially opt out of the switch. Radio 4 won’t let it go and have left the investigation open and ongoing and BT have had to engage with them on this and admitted it’s a big mess.

BT charged us for fibre broadband for 10yrs plus and comes down copper cables???
WTF is that all about???
Will they be compensating for mis selling???😡

You have been using FTTC, which is fibre to the cabinet then copper from there to your premises. The current rollout is FTTP which is fibre to the premises linked back directly to your local exchange rather than your nearest street cabinet.
