This decision is not Conservative common sense, but an admission they could not organise a pee up in a brewery.
for G*ds sake they are supposed to be the party of business but they cannot stop the blatantly corrupt systems which ensure that we pay 3 times the cost of such a scheme the French , that notorious country of bad governance , would pay.
i am shocked that we have got so low in the game

Can I just throw in nuclear power stations too if we are talking about incompetence and massive overspend?

not everything but certainly the vast majority of it yes, I started with a heap of debt really (but it was good debt !). I've not had it easy, I have certainly put the hours in through my younger years, never took a penny of social security in my life despite probably qualifying for it at times and have taken risks that could have bankrupted us had things not worked out the way I hoped they would

It's paid back though, life is easier now for sure

So you started with a borrowing history and presumably a land base, not sure if thats owned or rented.

Over what percentage of the UK population do you think you had a step up ?

i'm not about to share my intimate financial details with you or anyone else thanks

suffice to say I didn't have a privileged upbringing and I (my family) has a LOT more today than we had when I was a child. I (and my father who is not only a parent but probably the best business partner anyone could ever have asked for ) worked bloody hard, often horrible, dirty work and took huge risk to achieve that, we have had nothing handed us on a plate and things could easy have gone the other way for us on several occasions

Frankly I think i would have done better if I hadn't been born a farmers son, i'm entrepreneurial by nature and a natural risk taker - people love to assume success of others is only ever due to a sliver spoon or leg up but that a very over simplified and frankly often jaded view of reality

In a country like the UK everyone has access to the state school education I had - the rest is down to them, there are plenty of examples of huge success form absolutely nothing but NEVER without hard work, determination, raw talent or risk taking

In terms of enjoyment, what do you get the most from? The farming, techy internet stuff, car based business (I think you were into that) or your dabbling in
“ political “ stuff Clive?

It’s not a leading question, just wondering. I often ask farmers who have diversified. Tell me to mind my own business if you like.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Put your toys back in the pram.

Saying if you owned land is not exactly intimate financial details.

depends on your definition of “owned“ ? you own nothing until it’s fully paid for in my book so if you have equal assets to debt you are starting at zero

if you have more debt that assets you are starting at a disadvantage

I disagree.

You are a step up from than Joe Public if he wanted to buy a 200 acre farm.

We are drifting though.

I think you need to get out your cosy little bubble and see real life.

Posted without apparent irony on the set-aside forum. Just p!ssed myself laughing. Marvelous.

if you are referring to sfi you clearly haven’t looked to closely at it - i see no standards that don’t involve investment, work and management

unlike the bps you morn so badly which was simply a dole check

easy to make assumption about people’s past based on who / what the are today i guess

maybe if i ever write a book and you read it you might think differently but im in no mood to justify myself to you or anyone else right now

I understand that i just thought you meant you knew why they are not doing the work ?
“The Department for Transport said it would allow time to consider "any matters relevant" to the application.”
Despite it being considered for at least all of my lifetime. It’s nuts here now, particularly in the summer.

I don't mourn the BPS. I have consistently stated that the one reason for overhauling it was the fact that 50% of the money went to 10% of farmers. If that continues - and early signs are that it will - then the whole charade of ELMS has been as big a waste of time as HS2.
