Old Arieal Photo but where?? 1950's?

Random aireal Photo 1940-1950 but where.jpg

Found this while clearing out the attic. No idea where or when it was taken, but would guess Shropshire , Cheshire or may be Staffordshire.

Guess at 1940-1950s?

New portal frame shed, car and Land Rover in yard.

Any interest to anyone ?!

Would love to find one of that era of our farm

Was it Aerofilms used to do these? I remember dad was a soft touch when the salesman used to call in with the prints so we have two, from 1960 in b&w and about 1969 in colour. It is amazing how things changed here i the '60s. It is also funny how we have become used to aerial photos with drones and Google Earth to look at. In those days, we would look at our photos for ages picking out every detail.

I just remembered a site that came up recently at an archaeology talk- Historic England have lots of old air photos and have added the USAAF air recon. photos from the war. They have a searchable map to see the coverage and our patch was photographed by a Lightning pilot just before D Day. Every detail of the farm can be seen as it was that day.

That's a brilliant website I'm gutted though just missed us off the pic in August 1945

I got my dates mixed up on our photos, I read it as 8th May 1944 but it was taken by the Yanks so it was August 5th. I was looking at our neighbours' farm and couldn't figure out what the rows of dots were in May, but of course they were stooks. You can see the wagon at the end of the dots where they are loading it up. I was intrigued by our local airfield (Ibsley) where they had painted the hedgelines and field boundaries across the runways to disguise their shape.

It's only a small photo about 7x4. I don't think its a commercial photo , may have been taken by an Uncle who used to fly. He lived at Prees not that far from Ellesmere.

He’s welcome to it if it’s of interest. PM me an address and I’ll stick it in an envelope.

It will mean a lot more if it finds it’s home . To me it’s just a random old photo.
