Well done AHDB

I hope BFU has 10,000 members shortly and can ballot them to get rid of ADHB as it would surely easily have all the required numbers. (y)
The votes to end the AHDB pots and hort sectors were successful because the TFF was used to rally support. I'm sure it could be equally successful for other sectors if the numbers were known. Good to see the new GB potatoes doing what their industry expects. Perhaps GB cereals or beef ect could make a better platform to promote and represent British farming than AHDB.

The real question is what are farmers getting for their £60 million a year?
Top 5 people account for over £0.5m in wages. Chairman £55k for 104 days. That's nearly 1% used up.

Tbh I don't begrudge decent wages if they're doing a good job, although those wages do seem quite generous.

If AHDB are doing a decent job, then profitable farmers won't bother with SFI, and as a result AHDB levy receipts will remain high.

I wonder if this proposed levy increase is because AHDB realise they haven't managed to keep agricultural profitability competitive against SFI, and hence output and AHDB revenue will fall, so therefore they need a levy increase to keep their jobs.

It's ironic really. The less successful AHDB are at keeping our profitability decent and the greater their failures, the more we have to pay.

They’ve absolutely failed to address the fact that we are forced to produce to higher standards than imports but get no premium or direct compensatory production sub to make up for the higher costs those higher standards force upon us.
That’s a major failure in my view. So I’m afraid they’ve lost my support.
And to heap yet more upon us with the GFC while unassured imports are waived through really takes the biscuit.
Yes, enough is enough. Why should we as producers continue to tolerate that kind of negative discrimination while they just sit back and raise their levies? No way.

AHDB and the corporate food system are in direct competition with SFI and other land uses like solar panels. Farming isn't compulsory.
Indeed, I won't be paying the parasites any more, just had my CS application accepted, so will be buying a big topper and the remaining time will be spent harassing these parasites at every opportunity

No no no. We're still paying the same share but of a bigger pie.
Actually, yes, sorry, you're right, share is similar, BUT I suppose the gap has widened.

Take say £0.90 producer levy and £0.10 processor. We were paying £0.80 more than the processors.

Increase both by 33%...
£0.9, now increases to £1.20
£0.10 now increases to £0.13

After the increase we'd be paying £1.07 more than the processor.

Going right back to the OP.
AHDB have openly acknowledged their mistakes over GFC, they have also dipped their toe in at engaging on here... thanks @Levy Believer
however, I do believe that the thread has focussed on the poor performing aspects of AHDB and it is clear to see where they are.

As a livestock and dairy levy payer I do think that there is some terrific technical information and knowledge exchange work being done by the people on the ground and at farm level.

The huge let down is from the senior management team in their in-ability to react to farmers concerns about;
Communications
Public Relations
Marketing
Farm Assurance
Consumer facing education/ knowledge exchange.

These areas are all strategic and AHDB are doing the industry a dis-service because senior management are not stepping up to their duties.
Meanwhile, the KE staff on the ground are taking all the stick from levy payers.

Somehow, AHDB needs re-structuring , but the dead wood needs cutting out from the top of the tree first.
