maybe he meant steakeaters. Sat around a big table eating the best steak while discussing how bad cow sare for the environment, all on expenses of course:)

i think thats the select bunch who decide what farmers should pay

ps i actually do think the guys at the bottom level such as @Levy Believer are trying to do a decent job but the institutions are not for changing

If there's going to be a vote, IMHO, the only way to approach it, is to ask AHDB for the exact number required to hit the 5%.
That way we know exactly what's required, and they have no 'wiggle room'.

If they can't give the definitive number (and from all information that we appear to be getting, they can't), we'd need to go to the Secretary of State and ask him.

It's no good organising a vote if we don't know what the target is. We only have one shot at it, mess it up and we'll have to wait years for another chance.

As far as I understand it, the S of S is not bound to scrap it even if we get the required numbers - you can reckon they'd be some serious ar$elicking going on, it we ever get as far as a vote.
After the veg success they’ve already been to the Minister and concocted a survey for each sector to “prioritise “ where levy would be attuned in future and in that way wriggle out of an existential vote

When I got my survey form I called for Will Jackson and he rang me . The central message was ; I’m new in , lots of future stuff to come and improve , stick with me . Oh and there’s no need for an existential vote

At Pig sector meetings I’ve raised directly with the marketing head lady (at the height of the pig rollover crisis) about pro British promotion and also positive and clear food labelling ideas to DEFRA consultation. I was just told it’s not as simple as that and they have to follow fairness guidelines for all UK and non UK meat

I also am not really in agreement with the well done heading - fair play a few have deigned to come on here but not the heads and not with anything positive or open

Why have we to pander to non UK meat it begers belief not in full support of UK meat. It is just the same as aic, and imported grain they treat our produce as inferior to imported :(

They always cite trade agreement rules etc etc.

But it's my money and you really think the USDA guy is going to go back to his farmers and say "well we need to be fair to all with our promotion"

Here are the estimated numbers currently on the AHDBs we
View attachment 1154288
I think these will be the numbers that would need to be reached. I have no idea if @Jackov Altraids numbers are more up to date than 2020. But I would think they would take a “generous estimate” in this situation and would require whatever numbers are higher.

Just checked.
The figures I quoted were from 2015.
I think you could be pretty sure there have been further reductions in the last 3 years :(

Yep. I’ve tried to see some good in AHDB and RT as I like to give folk the benefit of the doubt and avoid conflict. But I really am struggling to see how that the millions in levies are being well spent. If they think they can get away with business as usual then I fully agree we need a vote on their future. Absolutely had enough here and sickens me to see what they rake off every lamb and load of grain.
Reast them out.
