Red tractor stakeholder survey on governance

With the benefit of hindsight I know that, and you know that but, at the time, UK (& foreign) consumers were blaming UK Ag and stopping buying our output in their droves.
Something had to be done to reassure them, and FA was undoubtedly one of the things that helped to do that.

Things have moved on now though, and FA has tried to carve out an existence by supplying certification where none was needed.
Hindsight? It was known at the time.

Same difference. We have allowed it to happen.

No.
As individuals, we have little or no influence. We rely on our 'union' and our levy bodies to act in OUR interests.
I, and I believe thousands of others, have resigned their membership of the NFU in protest of their refusal to address the very problems you have well articulated.

So I don't think I, and many others just let this happen.
You of course, may have.

This is true alas. Staunch NFU defenders have trusted those representatives to hold others above the chain to account.

And they've been naive

Looking ahead, and putting people's pet proposals for a slimmed down FA scheme to one side, what's the next step after the second NFU surveys come back in?

It can't just be a presentation of findings i.e. the statistical results from the questions answered?

This external review only came about because RT pictured itself as a mediator between landowners and the corporate processors/retailers - which as we all know, is the first step to incorporate business property rights of all the lands throughout the UK into the wider greening economy. We all know why their first step suggesting the voluntary GFC did not go down well. So what will the review say?

What will the lessons learnt be?

The communication people think its a communication problem. The strategists think its a marketing problem. The NGOs think its a policy problem.

Can TFF/BFU influence this review to make recommendations that farmers are going to want to hear?

It's very early days obviously.
This is the real worry. I suspect that those at the top think that they’ve just fumbled the ball slightly rather than provoked outrage amongst the people they’re supposed to represent.

Yes but it appears Minette and cronies seem to be so arrogant that they think it will blow over and it will be back to the gravy train they were all on before this

The whole deck of badly stacked cards has come crashing down around them but despite this they all seem too ingrained in the lie to see what’s happened. An acknowledgement (and apology) they got it wrong may just save a few careers but it soon be too late for that as well.

I have my annual insurance review booked on Monday.

Been with NFU mutual for last few years and they still come out very competitive on price and I can’t fault them on any claims I’ve made.

But the mutual rep has tried to get me to join the NFU every year, it’s not just about the discount on offer, it’s we can do X Y Z for you.

Ive had the whole debate around red tractor repeatedly with him and he just can’t see the issue.

im actually really looking forward to Monday.

Can’t wait to pile in again and now have a lot more ammo.

Plus I used to think the mutual are independent of the union….😂
