Always odd bits of rain everyday just to keep it wet/soft enough not to be able to do anything.
Bloody misery.
Bloody misery.
My mate grows a lot ,hes sowing SFi Summer Legume Fallow instesd then back to winter wheatCant see it as theres not been proper demand for barley for a while. I dont think I know a spring barley grower any more to be quite honest.
just as well he does because he’s not going to have a lot of straw to trade this summer !
We probably will, switched maize for spring barley last minute. That was the price quoted at the timeDid anyone actually pay £700 ? I could buy English seed in n,Ireland for a lot less
Are they still going ? We had one many years ago my old man bought it at a farm sale to cut thistles etc, certainly chopped them up but it took some driving in patches of old dead grass,Its flail mowers he needs to sell
Get in touch with Wilder ,
I would make @Clives 300 hp coughAre they still going ? We had one many years ago my old man bought it at a farm sale to cut thistles etc, certainly chopped them up but it took some driving in patches of old dead grass,
not if make malting spec. Plus the straw.Spring barley is a waste of time. £140/tonne will loose you money.
You can sow barley into dust and can sow wheat into porridge, but never the other way round.Wasn't the old adage that you sowed wheat in mud and barley in dust?
Exaggerated obviously but a valid point in there somewhere.
Yup, arable market is a toughy a the moment as it seems our clowns in administration don't want farmers to grow food??? worse potentially in Wales and what about the Welsh forests? No more rallying - can't have folk running around burning petrol and making a noise. What is the world coming to?no wonder your laughing Martin… you sell mowers, not combines
No more rallying?! Is this something else?!Yup, arable market is a toughy a the moment as it seems our clowns in administration don't want farmers to grow food??? worse potentially in Wales and what about the Welsh forests? Senedd is sure to Ban it as far too much fun, UNLESS the FC slap 20mph limits on the forest roads....No more rallying?! Is this something else?!

It's a once in a lifetime year , least I hope so .Drove down to Lincoln today. Hardly a crop to be seen that looks even half decent. Very little fertiliser been applied. Wheat thin and patchy. Some OSR about but looks poor and big bald patches. Untouched stubbles, min tilled land and ploughing still glistening with standing water. What a mess. It’s a write off year in the main around here. There’s still a little potential if things perk up but I’d say it’s going to be one of the smallest harvests I’ve ever known. Not deliberately trying to be gloomy. It’s just how it is unfortunately.
I'll look at beef & lamb prices to lift my mood.Drove down to Lincoln today. Hardly a crop to be seen that looks even half decent. Very little fertiliser been applied. Wheat thin and patchy. I have problems now , can get straw but will they pay for itI'll look at beef & lamb prices to lift my mood.
No mercy with the straw next year they can afford it.
Lamb and cull ewe prices have been excellent and so far this season they’ve been a lot easier to deal with than the arable. I say that but we haven’t actually done anything in an arable field for 5 months now. It’s the frustration that wears me out. And now about a month behind with fertiliser applications. No sprays been applied except for one dose of minerals in one Sandy field. At least costs have been low!I'll look at beef & lamb prices to lift my mood.
