Lamb and cull ewe prices have been excellent and so far this season they’ve been a lot easier to deal with than the arable. I say that but we haven’t actually done anything in an arable field for 5 months now. It’s the frustration that wears me out. And now about a month behind with fertiliser applications. No sprays been applied except for one dose of minerals in one Sandy field. At least costs have been low!

If it was as simple as buying sheep seed there would be a lot more next year.

Farmers are been tempted to sell breeding stock for killing. Prices likely to be high for a while. I'm just going to keep 10% extra per year (breed own replacements)

One bright side is that it’s obvious that fields that were grass for a few years and now have winter wheat look a lot better than fields that have never been grass. They have at least some N reserves ahd structure and the crops in them look better for it.

I was just about to order some fertiliser, I had enough in the shed for 1st dressing, think I'll hang on a bit as not put any on yet, I expect prices might dip a bit. Hard on ewes and lambs though, my white lambs looks like Suffolks.

Neighbouring farmer told me yesterday that the problem with this year's weather is the 13th moon in 2023. Something to do with the timing of the super blue moon and it being an extra one.

not if make malting spec. Plus the straw.

Malthing isn't as easy to hit as milling wheat though so its a big risk to plant it hoping you'll get full spec on barley.

Brown sheep here also, and this is over gravel which generally drys quickly.

I'm lucky I had some stubble turnip Halm that was in the shed very dry stuff, I used a lot around the feeding area to help, makes it easier to walk on for them.
