    Rent Proposal Advice

I've been in talks with a local estate agent about 3 fields, totalling roughly 50 acres. External fences are good, as is land, largely permanent pasture (15 acres dedicated silage meadows) with spring or streams in each field, no buildings. To begin with the land lord is prepared to offer...

    Water Pressure on hill

Your right, field can certainly handle much more, but this is just a starter flock, planning to get numbers up once a few issues, including tenancy, have been ironed out.

    Water Pressure on hill

I see what you mean, hauling water wouldn't be much fun even without time factored in. We fortunately have enough pipe from infrastructure used for our dairy herd which was sold earlier this year, so the first option shouldn't be too bad. I planned on pumping water up hill to refill the IBC...

    Water Pressure on hill

I'd like to cell graze a 35 acre field, which stretches over 500m in length and rises 60m from one head land to the other. For water, it would be great to be able to run MDPE pipe from the top of the field down to the bottom, branching out along the way down, fed by an IBC. In the real world...

The field we put them in after lambing is separated by road unfortunely so they all need gathering up. Along with ringing, marking and spraying naval of lambs, I want to see ewes ear tag to record her and lambs down together.

Lambing outdoors- catching ewe and lambs

Just wanted to ask while this years lambing is still fresh in the mind. My flock lambs outdoors in May, this year, despite giving them several hours to bond first. I found it hard catching the ewes once they had lambed, I would either catch lambs, have her follow me into a pen, or failing...

    Improve Sheep flow through race

For foot bathing the flock I'm using a portable 10ft race with corrugated sides. Mostly goes well but theres a few spring lambs or old ewe that once in, will try back up and hold the job up. This is normally solved by me kneeling and shoving from behind. Its effective but I'm not always fond of...

What will live weight in Lamb equate to deadweight

Is the MyoMAX gene in most, or only a small number of breeds?

What will live weight in Lamb equate to deadweight

Another good thing is that the butcher vacuum packs and labels everything (currently investigating vegeplatic). On the label is the price each joint would have cost in the shop. I never think half a lamb looks much for the money but pick up the leg or shoulder joints and check out the shop price...
