When you have different folks needing access to one piece of property.
Drill enough holes into a rotating plate that equal the number of outfits needing access. Each outfit installs their own lock into a hole. Take your lock out of it's hole on the rotating plate, making room for the rod to slide up through the hole and out of the gate, allowing it to swing open.

At the end of the day a slitting disc in a cordless grinder would eat that lot like it was cheese. It looks good though, somewhat intimidating for some!

Unfortunately some numpties (sorry other folks) don't quite get the gist of it and fasten their padlock back to the chain leaving the other padlocks doing nothing!!!
The way I have done it a couple of times is short lengths of chain with padlocks joining them. These days I only allow unrestricted access to folk I can trust so it's not an issue.
What's the problem with 1 padlock with multiple keys - 1 for each user? Or a combination?
It can get expensive if you need to bar someone - you have to replace the lock and all the keys. Combinations are fine till some joker works it out and then changes the combination! :banghead::banghead::banghead::mad:

As for cutting the disc to break in - why bother? Those padlocks wouldn't stand up to a half decent pair of pikey scissors aka bolt croppers!;)

On some land we graze there is a a very ingenious lock.

Basically the gate has a bit of 2" box welded to it horizontally, overlapping the closer post. It has slots cut in the top and bottom.

The slot is filled with plates that are padlocked, and hook into a C shape on the closer post.

Unlock your padlock, remove the tab, slide the others along to unlatch the gate.

Combination is surely the easiest. If you want to stop someone then just change the combination and inform the rest of them.
Anther much more expensive option is an electric gate with a gsm sim give out the phone number and add people to the sim so when they call it opens. Add and remove as you please.

Had this problem at Cowlyd reservoir when I was with the water board, several padlocks on one chain, and Npower renewables who viewed it as their lake (they generated a bit of subsidised electric, for us it's the sole source of drinking water from Penmaenmawr to Rhyl so 150,000 people plus) and would always bypass our lock no matter what. All the WW locks were key alike so I cut the chain in several places around the post and added 4 padlocks after the cheeky gits came up to the lake, saw me there so left and locked me in. Childish w4nkers.

It's National Grid, gas company and water board that has access to our fields aswell so we have multiple padlocks!!!

At a recent demo day at our local lndustrial supplier, we were shown a padlock that works with Bluetooth , you add people's phones to it and it allows them to open the padlock. If you wanted to stop them you just deleated them and that was it. It would also tell the padlocks owner who was using it and the time it was used etc. It was about £60.

Had a straw truck phone up one day to ask which field to go to. Said I'd come up to the farm and open the gate for him. No bother he says ive just cut the chain with my battery grinder. I wonder what he thought when he didn't come back.
