The size of your cows is huge
Are cows are 480/500 kgs which is a better size for spring calving
We have two big indoor herds not far from me (2000+ cows) and they buy up all the grass ratsput them indoors 24/7 and they'll do 9000 lts a year and get back in calf on a yearly basis
You just have to feed them

We had small cows like yours and they gave out small calves, no strength to them whatsoever. And the way red tractor is going we as farmers need to be better at advertising our surplus stock like bull calves, nearly all my calves went for rearing this year averaging £85 each at 2-3 weeks of age. Most of the small spring calves ended up as £15 killers at some point that’s not going to be allowed

I heard the other day of one spring calver, who as well as shooting bull calves, when he hits his quota for heifer calf replacements he shoots all those too. Disgusting if true, and the RT rules you allude to can't come soon enough.

Depends on his Tb situation, needs must sometimes I don’t think anyone would set out to do it that way.
