Chemical delivery drivers

What are the rules on where chemical deliver drivers can leave chemicals?
We have an electric gate, normally they pull up, buzz the intercom and get let in. The company has the access code to a drop off box.

Last delivery, they were let through the gate, but left the delivery next to the box, not inside it. So the boxes were left outside, in the rain. To top it off, the boxes were marked ‘this way up’ with an arrow. Half of them were left upside down......

You can be awkward and not allow chemicals to be unloaded unless you are present. Get them to call you when 30 minutes away.

I know some neighbour's do this, personally i don't have time.

It’s not a job I’d want to do. Remote obscure drop off points. Barriers and all sorts of security systems. Dog tearing arse out your trousers. If you were a new driver would you know the ropes at every premises first time round? I’d probably make a hash of it though I’d like to think I’d leave the boxes the right way up!

I had the opposite the other day, they guy didn't want to leave anything unless I was there to put it in the chems store right away. He was new though so probably not used to the vagaries of delivering to farms!

I believe it is the legal responsibility to only deliver into secure and suitable storage

on Farm Marketplace we insist buyers make a declaration they have such facility before we can take the order

Thing is we have a locked drop off box for them, and the code is on their tickets. He knew where the box was as he put them next to it.
Surely leaving cardboard boxes the correct way up and not outside in the rain isn’t that much to ask?

Must be a driver moonlighting from Hermes....

Nah Hermes driver would have just chucked the delivery in the neighbours hedge and buggered off.

Hutchinsons send an automatic message to say “the delivery vehicle has arrived on farm”, which is handy when you want to crack on.

I don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with a chemical delivery driver, or a delivery. I find they’re usually well organised, giving fair warning for pallets and IBC’s that will need a loader at the farm.

Don't go slagging Hermes off. Our local sub contractor runs a very tight ship and his drivers respond accordingly.

Agree, our local delivery driver from Hermes is excellent too!. Poor sod must work 7 days a week. Is always cheerful and polite.

Have to say we get excellent service from Hermes. But then that could be because our local Hermes driver is the wife of one of our employees........

To be honest, so is our local driver. Properly trained to leave deliveries and gives a call if he needs a signature!

The locums on the other hand... Worst we have had recently is UPS whose driver failed to find us again, 2 days after needing help to find us. Cant read a GPS either...

Self employed gig economy :-(

Had one lad who was like the chap you describe, a nice guy who had two youngsters and a flakey Partner. We were sad to see him go, but I bumped into him in a pub about 15 miles away one night and I was able to get him a beer. Had gone into a factory on the lines, twice the wage and able to spend time with kids...
