So today is the day I should've been flying out to India, bearing in mind I've been trying to get out there now for some time and there has just been delay after delay for this reason and that reason etc most of which out of my control. And erm this time round, same thing again.. just er on a global scale. :(

On Wednesday I was getting ready to pack my suitcase and figure out how to ship all my robotics gear out there and Thursday:- Nope, India is shut to you bro.

I'm absolutely gutted. I would've still gone had I been "allowed"... but Indian Govt announced a day after the Trump ban the same thing for 30 days for most visitors to India. So yeah my heart goes out to anyone reading this in the future affected seriously by any of this virus stuff. But yeah I'm totally gutted, ive put my heart and soul in to some of these plans and I'll probably have to wait another year now or late 2020.

Anyway, I'm going to take this in good spirits and not rant even though yeah I feel like venting for 1000s of paragraphs! :)

PS. I will rant about capitalism gone mad off the back of this virus stuff though, placeholder in place for that a few posts down!! Mainly monetary policy related//
PPS. so much good stuff happened in the build up to flying out, I was planning to update you guys once I got out there, but I'll do this when I feel better.
Sorry to hear that mate , it's hard when you've been building up to something and then its stopped due to circumstances out of your control.
I think we all may be in for a hard couple of months.

Thanks primmiemoo, Treg for your replies.

I fear now, this will set the poorest in India back x2 maybe x3 times as hard as it does the rest of the world. Then the vultures swoop in to clean up the countries assets and ride the poor even harder for a decade or two. Plus social media stirring religious hatred doesn't really help either, (which I won't comment further on). Still totally feeling truly sh!t about this whole circumstance for the poverty stricken in India.

For example.

I just feel sick for the guys living in cupboards, slums like the below being asked to lockdown for 3 weeks, without daily income or food plus having to queue for hours on end to survive. India is just soo misunderstood on such a global scale and we were due to have a wonderful ten years. I don't think you can really understand the country unless you visit say 8-15 times or do serious hardcore research. Sometimes I think even the politicians that run the country don't understand India.

I just can't understand why the lockdown has been done this way, 17.7% of the globe locked down with minuscule political notice.
This is too much power for a handful of people. Farmers should've had more guidance, as should the migrant workers. Maybe even get them to work together to isolate better for 3 weeks. I guess, that's easy to say with hindsight.

Anyway, I'm truly fortunate my flight was not 3 days earlier and totally appreciate the way Boris and co have handled stuff in this country. makes me proud to be British born.

On a side note. Most of the people I know live on farms they own, so they will be fine, they can work on their land so they are fine, some whom have land away from their residency will struggle a little but they will be fine. The poorest of farmers will struggle the most also as they usually don't live on their plots of land. There has been no farming guidance, or contingency in place that I am aware of. There should've been some guidance.

PS. I will rant about capitalism gone mad off the back of this virus stuff though, placeholder in place for that a few posts down!! Mainly monetary policy related//
Note: Not gonna do this now, did it in my last couple of posts elsewhere on the forum.

I'll be away for a little bit now. Flights have been changed for end of April, I'll review again after that and maybe delay until later in summer, I may even put my business up for lease in the UK so I can focus more on stuff back at the farm, as it's a strong uk business that will survive this stuff that I can return back to in the future. Lots to think about.

Stay safe everyone.

Very interesting post & it's upsetting to think of how India's poor & other countries will come out of this.
I wish you luck with your future & hope you & your family stay safe.

where cows are a religious animal. India is one of, if not the biggest dairy producer in the World, however a dairy cow in the USA produces 12 x times the milk per lactation, than a cow in India.

I’ll explain a little regarding my personal understanding of Indian attitude to cows etc in my thread when I get a chance.
Just a follow up to the above conversation in another thread. Just some random ramblings as usual!

My impressions of this will be different to other Indians/Hindu’s and this can vary a lot from region to region. im deffo no expert on this but I understand the general gist of the attitude to a cow in India etc. And I haven’t asked a lot of questions about this ever, I just know what I’ve picked up over the years from my numerous visits. Comments from elders/family etc.

The cow is revered as a symbol to avoid famine and ensure your children receive the right kind of nutrients, ie mainly milk and yogurt. Etc. If you can sustain a cow during a famine then the cow will help your children to grow strong. malnutrition is a serious issue (still sadly) hence this attitude to the cow is very common knowledge.

Most Indians won’t slaughter or eat the cow because she is considered like a mother figure. It is also a belief that if a group of people or a family drink milk from one cow, then the attitude of that cow can be passed on to the person(s) drinking the milk - that’s why traditionally milk from cow a) would not be mixed with another cows.

It’s not unusual to see a cow roaming around the streets, eating whatever they can find during the day and then returning back home in the evening... most people will often feed a stray cow during the day if they see one as they know it’s roaming around because the owner may not be able to afford to feed it and may have children etc. Sometimes it can be a terrible sight when you see a stray cow chewing on trash, plastic which is also quite common. Sometimes owners just abandon their cows for whatever reason and the community will take them in and house them in a diary farm where they can have a better life.

English cows are becoming much more common now in diary farms because of their productivity. I don’t really know the difference in traits/productivity etc so I think it’s best if i don’t comment on that.

I’ll try and post a general update on when I plan to go next soon. on a side note I had 90% of my plane fares refunded - so that was something positive.

So it’s been well over a year and one month since I was supposed to go to India for a 3 month break / work on some of these projects. Plus spend some time on my health stuff n India.

A year+ later, I’ve had the most horrid year of my life and still not been to India and had a break! Instead I don’t think I’ve had 2 days off work in a row for a year in retail. Desperate to get out to India but as some of you may have read recently, things appear to be quite bad out there. So I will wait obv.

On a side note one positive thing to come from this crappy year has been that I’ve been forced to start some of my planned projects from the U.K. which seems to be working out really well — I’ve been training my retail staff up on CAD modelling, full stack programming, robotic prod dev, tackling algorithms, open source attitude to hacking and this has been a godsend in terms of distracting me from the annoyance and frustration of not being able to work on my plans. (That I put in place well before covid) and not only that but working in retail has been soooooo hard this past 12 months.

I’ve basically just been a verbal punchbag for some people which has really just put me off continuing in my current line of business. That said I still my Have my health so I can’t be that mad. I can just walk off into the sunset and have an easy life if I chose that path! So I reallly should stop moaning. But I prefer to work so my own fault really.

My crystal Ball attitude to blockchain and bitcoin has paid off rather nicely as well and I plan to work on some other blockchain networks like solana, Elrond, cardano, near, and obv ethereum for dabbling in smart contracts and not focus on the ROI aspect but just the building working products side of things.

I may have some other updates I’d like to share soon but not just yet ! Don’t want to jinx anything

hope your all well
Thanks for reading

I guess you're talking IT.

Glad you survived the last 12 months mate & good to get a update from you.

Grocery store corner shop convenience. No other shop for a mile from me - I was doing deliveroo stuff in 2018/2019 via my own app- the business has always been like a slow and steady means to allow me to do other things. Which has worked really well. But looking at my first post which was March 2019 maybe I need focus purely on this farming thing I’m soo passionate about. As 24 months of waiting... is pretty crazy and not really me.

But the Ironic thing is I could’ve easily shut from a financial perspective if I wanted to but stayed open. I Should’ve been more selfish really!! And I could’ve had a nice break riding around the streets in lycra shorts that haven’t fit me for 10 years and just get in everyone’s way lol!!!

So a “smart contact” is programmable money.

I would look into it if I was you and those blockchains I mentioned are going to be layer 4 networks that perform really well from a transaction per second perspective. Currently most crypto is in layer2/3 stage.

Vice News have been seriously upping their level of content since this pandemic stuff began. I would be seriously ashamed if I was an india police officer or politician when this happened.

I’ll not say much else for now, but if you have an hour to spare, especially given the fuel stuff / protesters etc… worth a gander for some perspective.

Interesting to see something about sustainable traditional living. Plus this stuff we're seeing left right and cent, up and down at moment globally...

Anyway, It will be coming up to 3 years in March'22 since I've been planning to get out to India.. hopefully should be out there before then.

I've had a lot of changes happen and few updates to give, will do so properly when I am out in India with some context, looking forward to getting some feedback on my communities methods of farming and how traditional and sustainable they used to be compared to "middle use of tech" and "advanced use of tech". I'll define these labels with more definition at a later date.

I'll be at crop tech in November. So looking forward to that... looks like the journey begin soon. lol, what a mare I've had getting this started.

Advice Please - any other Agritech events worth attending before March'22? Thx

If Africa bares any relationship to India... labour is cheap, tech is expensive and vulnerable to theft and breakdown. When mechanisation reducers jobs it rather upsets locals and increases occurrences of theft and breakdowns.

I've never been to Africa so not something I can provide a view on.
What I will say is I come from a minority community in India, probably less than 1 million of us on the planet (small for India! lol). And our India is very different to everyone else's India. It's soo complicated, I daren't even try to explain it! Our ways are dying off but our traditions are very tribal and climate change proof. We've always had individuals amongst the community that value service to society above everything else. And when its time to step we are happy to do so and share our ways, when society is in a great place we love stepping back and enjoying the view!!! Thats how I see it anyway.

We have our issues, and like all communities good and bad people who take advantage of other humans. But I think every country has the same problem in different ways.

Would love to hear more info with any of pics/vids/material you may have, and changes you've seen? Africa is very different to India but similar in lots of ways (I would think).

Would love to get out there one day.
