Would laser kill the blackgrass & leave the Vetch & Clover?
Laser has label approval for green covers not in crop production but whether it works or not depends on if fops & dims still work on blackgrass on your farm. How big is the blackgrass? If it is tillering or bigger, I doubt it very much.

Are you not allowed to bale & wrap that, it looks wonderful.
AB15 specifically excludes grazing or conserving. I was thinking after August 15th it’s out the scheme so maybe you could conserve it then. Only leave the roots and short stalks then to deal with. It’s removing a lot of nutrients so would want manure back eventually.

If you want to have something to cut or graze GS4 or the SFI equivalent pays £382 per ha.

AB15 pays £593/ha as said it’s 5 years payment for 4 years cropping loss as August/mid September year 1 to August 15th year 5. Does involve 2 lots of establishment though.

How are growers planning to establish their AB15, this August?

The soil is moist, but trodden in places by combines and baler.
Do I scratch it in and then roll?
Same predicament. Combine and baler has squashed the life out of the wheelings. Will stand water over winter in those wheelings.

Dry ish week for forecast, so I'm keeping off the lane for a few days, then out with the spade to see how wet soil is. I'm hoping to put a time through it at maybe 8" deep, then combi drill with Coulter's just bobbling along the surface.

If didn't have wheel damage I'd have considered spinning the seed on last week and hope legume roots would repair the soil, but just think wheelings would have sat water in them all winter.

Established legume fallow in 2021 (wet July/August) by ploughing to dry the soil, then cultivated a couple of days later.

I asked earlier but didn’t get a response, when would the collective recommend doing the pre winter cut? What sward height do people aim for it to overwinter? Currently a massive 2ft high thick crop after its first summer and I believe this would be rank and detrimental if left. All thoughts welcome

Be interested in replies.the official info says to cut twice between March and end of septemper.I’ve cut half of mine that I drilled in April and it seems to recover very rapidly and I’ve got some cut 2 weeks ago that is already in flower again and a foot tall.will cut it all mid to end of September but I’d expect it to be in flower again by mid to late October.

I had this same situation with my AB15 last year. A really thick 2ft+ high crop, that I was thrilled with.
However, come the winter the thick crop flopped over and in some areas, killed the established sward.
I know the guidelines do not mention it, but I will be giving my AB15 a pre-winter cut, next time around.
I am currently spraying off my first lot of AB15 and drilling my second lot, on different fields.

The guidance is actually “cut at least twice….”
To me you would be mad to only cut it twice especially if there are any grass weeds. I’m topping mine again now and will aim to repeat again mid September.
