yes, we dropped right back, complete lack of reliable labour.
l am knackered and cannot do much, leaves son, with dubious p/t help.

had a problem, sorted it out. Had changed to spring calving, but ended up buying grub to feed them all summer, because we dry out, did that for 3 years, and swapped back to autm, and a lot less cows. Less work, less grub, and unfortunately less milk !

yet this year, made enough grub to feed 300+, and another 30 acres of grass, and 40 acres of maize, to go yet, mad mad times.

not only that, when we were looking for more land, not a hope, now not desperate, taken on 120 acres, at low rent 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️
Do you mine if ask how many you did have?
It ok good option if you can afford to

peaked at 270, but no cottage to tempt anyone full time, and a massive estate employing 500+, not really sure we had an option.

wasn't easy on the income side, traded a lot of dairy cattle, in/out, and the rising milk price, was a great help. Got there in the end. Life is a lot easier, but still a lot to do.

and still have siblings to sort out, so future planning is subject to 🤷‍♂️ 🤬 beef side will increase, especially with TB a current problem, not the same amount of work.

don't want to turn ground down, as we are likely to lose a block, when 🤷‍♂️

we have plan, A, B and C.

Leprino stand on for November

money is running tight with a lot of people. Builders are starting to get a little twitchy locally as lots of jobs being cancled

edit - few thousand cows booked in for sales locally again. Cull men are lapping up bulling heifers on the cheap atm.

Local dairy sold off equipment today after cows went a few months ago. No body seemed very excited about the winter ahead. Cows not milking where they ought to be and prices not very good. Let’s hope a reduction in supply helps the price next year.

Everyone says cows not milking that great, yet production up.
