Slurry tanker gate valve not closing

Have a problem with a gate valve sticking with a teaspoon full of silage, then the tanker can't fill because it is drawing air through it. Happens about 3 times a day. Why does the manual valve that I fill through never stick, but the hydraulic one is a torture

Depends whether the hydraulic valve has a cutting edge along the bottom edge of the gate that's controlled by the hydraulic ram. Some are designed to cut through any soft obstruction.......
Are your two valves identical?

Have you checked the groove that the valve slides in to, I had a small piece of flint in there that stopped the valve shutting fully, and that allows just a small piece of debris to cause a problem as it stops the chopping effect of the valve.

The flat lollipop valves tend to accumulate hard packed fibre at the top of the lollipop. This inhibits movement and requires the occasional removal of the top part by separating at the flange. Then you need to poke the hard packed rubbish out with a long screwdriver or something.
Otherwise change the whole top of the valve out for a bell type which never blocks because they self clean. It depends how much you value your time and sanity as to whether you think it worth the cost.
If you already have a bell shaped valve then I can only suggest you extend the return spring to exert more downward pressure on the valve and if that fails, separate the top and bottom and check that the lollipop or its top attachment point is worn excessively, allowing the lollipop to tilt.

The thing is, this was a brand new valve, put on in June this year. It must be faulty?
