How long was he locked up for?

If he had all the licenses and was told to do it, why was he taken to court and how did he lose? Bad lawyer?

Looks like he's done a good job to me, should probably have put a bill in but something must be off with his story.
Answering my own question, it appears he pleaded guilty to two sets of offences and was sentenced to 12 months which was reduced to 10 months on appeal.
Things seem a little more complicated than has been suggested on here and perhaps by the Farmers Weekly.
Sentencing remarks. Well worth a read.

yes quite a story spun up, such authority, such correctness, and yet they cant even spell the River name correctly.

no mention of the flood arch being cleared . no mention of what a flood arch is for.

...............meanwhile in Ukraine and the Middle East .

There's a long thread on here about it I know but I don't remember getting far with it. Threads like that tend to get a bit carried away.
At least 2 sides to this it seems, I'm not sure that Mr price is as pure as the driven snow.
Reading those remarks does explain things a little, I don't suppose many will read them though.

Seriously, 15 blokes on a multi-agency task force on a dawn raid for a bloke who did some digging in a river. You'd get less effort put into a interpol raid of some drug lord living on the Costa del sol. What muppetry. I should think anyone involved should feel rather embarrassed at this tomfoolery. What a complete waste of tax payer resources, no wonder folk have a low opinion of the EA or Natural England.
and yet, young girls being abused by gangs, and the authorities say, they are making a lifestyle choice, nothing to see here, let's move on!

Much more complicated with pictures taken downstream passed off as being the location upstream. Still reckon it should go to the ECHR to decide whether Riparian rights still mean anything in English law.

Should read all the thread the allegations were totally torn to shreds but just goes to show we can no longer rely on the English courts to hand out Justice and that the court system is well and truly broken. Now if we had a strong union like the Norwegians then the Government would not be able to come up with such useless quango's as EA, NE or FC.

I think Robert Maxwell showed us that justice belongs to those with the deepest pockets (and the Post Office scandal too, so not just the person with the deepest pockets, organisation too).

The sentencing remarks displayed a gross misunderstanding of the case and some of the remarks made by the Judge were worthy of a defrocking.

I'd forgotten about the first thread when I saw the interview and thought he was just talking about clearing the bridge which looks good, but completely removing everything on long stretches on a number of occasions after being told to stop doesn't seem like the smartest thing to do.
I'm sure something needed doing but that?
I also notice he was ok with blocking it up and pumping the water out for irrigation when it suited him.
If you owned the fishing rights (not cheap I'd imagine) what would you say.

All torn to shreds but he pleaded guilty?

Interesting what did they get wrong? The appeal didn't seem to make much difference.

The main thing wrong was any sign of objectivity from the Judge.
He interpreted everything as negatively as he could, often embellishing the prosecution while dismissing evidence from the defence.

One of the best examples;

11. There is a wealth of photographs which show the river before and after the work done by Mr Price. Any person, with even a passing interest in the countryside and conservation, could not fail to be dismayed by the devastation caused by Mr Price. He has turned a traditional, tree lined, meandering river, full of wildlife, into a canal void of most life. It is nothing short of ecological vandalism on an industrial scale.

That is appallingly flawed statement for any Judge to make.

This country has gone to the dogs because nobody can make a decision on behalf of an organisation, by the time a decision has been made a fortune has been spent getting to the answer with the budget blown. People like JP are doers, they get the job done. Many organisations, EA, NE, Wildlife trusts, National trust etc etc have no money because its wasted talking about making a decision rather than doing the actual work. On another note we are constantly told the river wye is dead ,and yet a recent fishing contest landed over 2t of fish and was lauded as the best river in the country !

Indeed.
I wonder who had done such a good job of looking after this River before 1995?

"The River Lugg rises in Wales. It is one of the best examples of a clay river in mainland Britain. It supports a large collection of river plant communities which, in turn, supports a diverse population of invertebrates and fish. It is tree lined with alder and willow for most of its length. It is a core refuge area for otters. Native white clawed crayfish are common. Salmon, trout, lamprey and bullheads can be found. Bird life includes dippers, grey wagtails, common sandpiper and kingfishers. 121 different species of plant are to be found. Midland Fly Fishers Ltd own the fishing rights to a significant stretch of this part of the river and, prior to Mr Price’s works, this was a much-loved stretch of river for fishermen. It is of European importance for both habitats and species.

3. Such is the importance of the River Lugg that in 1995 it was notified as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) in order that this significant natural resource may be conserved, enhanced and managed for the benefit of present and future generations. The River Lugg also falls within the River Wye Special Area of Conservation."

Marvelous how these organisations "take over" the care of these thriving rivers/meadows etc to "protect" them even though wildlife etc is thriving so doesnt need any protection and then over time they ruin it through neglect and arrogance.
