Upset is who I am: Upset that organisations like the NFU, who are supposed to represent our industry, have secretly sold our livelihoods and my families future to the retail consortium so they may meet their environmental commitments to pseudo science, all at the soul expenditure of the primary producer

My apologies if your delicate sensibilities have been offended by my belligerence . I must admit, though, that I cannot comprehend why you would direct ire towards myself? It is not I who secretly colluded with the retail consortium, it is not I who still intends introducing the greening module. It is the RT, with backing from their owners, the NFU, who are wilfully selling us out

I urge you to direct your indignation towards the culprits, not a messenger of their crimes
If one was to attempt to garner support for ones strong feelings in a bid to enact change, then putting a reasoned argument forward and asking for support would be arguably more successful than shouting orders and demanding said peers do as one requests.

Delicate sensibilities? You obviously don't know me very well.

£140 million would soon go if nobody paid any subs. They'll have a large wage bill and alot of running costs to keep their regional offices going..
Would they really have £140 million? After all, that's something else they could be fibbing about!
Does that £140m include property assets ?

NFU should not allow any greening giveaways within RT standards, as it will get bundled in with our goods, which they rarely want to pay decent money for anyway. And/or be a condition of supply.

Here's a thought. NFU set up a marketplace for greening goodies. Invite farmers to offer up what they've got available. Invite businesses (food and non food) to offer for those actions. Tesco can buy as many or as few as they like. Retailers won't want to do this because they'll have to ACTUALLY pay for them. The wanted them for free.

Well, it says so in their accounts 🤷‍♂️

.....but, after this last week's revelations, it wouldn't surprise me if they were cooking the books, as they seem to be lying about everything else 🤪

Not sure, but I can think of a couple of agri businesses that have gone over the years because they didn't really have all they claimed.. and £140million without property seems alot. And if they do have it, why aren't they spending some of it to benefit members? and why would they need supermarket members?

So how many “ proper” farming members have NFU got ?

Not counting the countryside good lifers !

Still one here.🙋‍♂️

As I have repeatedly stated, I would happily see RT discarded completely and absolutely disagree with NFU top table’s stance on RT and GFC.

However, I farm in Wales, and NFU Cymru (along with FUW) are doing a fantastic job of engaging with members AND lobbying effectively for change over Welsh ag policy. That, to me as a sheep farmer in Wales, is far more important

If it was possible to support NFU Cymru without supporting NFU (England), then I would do so, but that’s not an option as things stand and NFU Cymru have earnt my support imo.

Not been a member of NFU for 5 years they ask me every year and always refused and told my agent I would not be a member because their involvement in Red Tractor , which my agent always denies they are involved?? We spend £32,000 a year in insurance with the NFU , it’s due for renewal in April 24 , because of GFC , and red Tractor I’m going to move my insurance when it’s renewal time comes.

That will worry the Agent much MUCH more. and will help concentrate his attention.. :sneaky:

I suspect based on what I and many other formerly loyal NFUM customers have found recently, you may well have a pleasant surprise there...

Get your Renewal quote, in writing nice and early. You will probably have to request it, so you can use it to compare quotes. 🤨

Thats the right thing to do.

Principles matter and what the NFU have been doing over RT is massively unprincipled. I have a good deal of agreement with @neilo on NFU Cymru with more mud on their boots etc but I couldn't support them until they recognised what their parent organisation is doing to farmers first

You will need to ask for your 5 year claims history from NFUM in good time as it will affect other companies ability to quote for your business.

Details are rapidly emerging which show the NFU backed greening module aims to fulfill supermarket environmental commitments by robbing farmers of their livelihoods

The NFU is backing a 20% reduction of red meat, and a cut in British food production of 50%

The NFU are in the supermarkets pockets, and are actively working against our industry, while supposedly being our representatives

They have long rode roughshod over their members, but this cannot be ignored. They are attempting to take away our livelihoods, our future

Is it not time that every NFU member sent a clear and unequivocal message to the gravy train supping parasites who were secretly attempting to sell our industry down an amazon deforested river?

It needs a social media group forming by someone who's a skilled organiser, commentator, and speaker to get farmers to join it so that as an industry we can see the depth of anger against this proposal a platform that you can be confident that any action taken at any given time you know that you have X thousands of troops ready right behind you , it's the only way as I see it you can confidently put your cards on the table , sady I'm not media savy enough to be that man

gosh …… why did no one think of that 12 years ago 🤣

One would think so, but there again, some are very good at being key board warriors, but not so good when it comes to turning up at a meeting , face to face, and voting .

there is no real vote on leadership - just a kind of illusion of democracy

Those wise few that make the leadership decision will either understand a need for change or not, if they don't and just make one of the groomed chosen yes men the next president then I predict rapid decline

It was without doubt Tom Bradshaws turn to play president but there is so much blood on his hands over Red Tractor and connection with the now disgraced Minnete I really cant see how he can credibly be givern the job ? Council seem to have lost support for Tom and Minette from what everyone says ?
