Trailed forage harvesters

Be interesting to see how much grunt a 1350 would stick and how much grass you could get it to blow. A 155R would be the minimum would it?
1350 is only rated to about 230 Hp I believe but I think they would take a bit more we pulled ours with a 200hp mf 7720 but a bigger tractor would of gone faster. We’ve now swapped it for a 1260 which is rated at about 270hp but is actually a narrower drum but jf insisted when we bought it we would get the same output which I think they are correct

What’s the difference between a 1060 and a 1260?

Heres a 1355 on a Cat 95E, and they have serious torque on them.
Check out the guys other videos he has a few with 270+hp driving the forager, and more grass too.
And he's filling on the correct side.🤣🤣

I love a trailed forager, we’ve done our own grass forever. Precision chop wise we started with a Taarup 106b, then went to a Massey branded Pottinger mex 4 (was it a Massey 630?), then to a JF 900 in 1995 which we ran until we replaced it with a used JF 1100. Great foragers but the lack of metal detector was a pain, and they were struggling with the raked swaths. Had a new 1060 in 2016 which was a disaster with the electrics so we changed it after 12 months for another the same- but that one was even worse! The drivelines weren’t aligned properly and had lots of bearing and chain issues. To be fair we were probably trying to do too much with it and we should have had a 1260 but we bit the bullet half way through first cut and bought a used self propelled. Hell of a step up and it proved the concept worked for us but reliability was an issue with this particular one- I think it had done more hours than the clock read! So we had a very good deal on a new 8200 jd for the 2022 season which was another step up again for us. On the straight and narrow there’s not much in it but the way it deals with lumps is incredible, it just keeps on going. Even a knotty sward seems to come out the spout in an even blow. I think it’s this that gives the self propelled the biggest advantage, plus the ease of moving between fields, next to no daily maintenance, sharpening/ setting the shear bar in 3 minutes when waiting for a trailer.

It’s not the quickest thing in the world as it’s now the smallest one Deere make but because it’s keeps on chopping all day everyday it’s rare to do less than 100 acres/ day. Everything is rowed 40ft into one. Doing what we do with it there’s no reason it shouldn’t last us 20 years.

Can you show us some pictures of your new 8200 please? Must be a heck of a lot of machine for a farmer to have. (y)

I think the drum is 24 blade the same but I’m not entirely sure about the 1060. The 1260 has a different design and more metal in it compared to the older machines but the main difference is the drivelines and gearboxes are far far stronger I think the 1060 is basically a 900 setup.

Whenever I watch a video of a JF I'm always waiting for the bang and my left foot is always looking for a clutch!
My neighbour banned me from driving his,I used to give it a bit to much shoe😂
not sorry I’ve always thought they were soft.

30 years ago we were putting 250hp through a nh819 then a 550,forward reverse gearbox used to give us the most bother.
