Two very good editorials in the FW this last fortnight

One calling for head of Red Tractor to consider his position and the other in disappointment at the coronation of the next leader of the NFU. Might not seem like much but would have been unthinkable even just a few years ago as 'our' trade magazine would have been scared to bite the hand that feeds. Whether you think this goes to far, or not far enough, is your own opinion but I think it's great that Andrew Meredith is happy to talk about them. We have all seen how others in our institutions have tried to shut down debate and criticism. By bringing it all out into the open I suggest he has done us all a favour. I've renewed my subscription following the hard work of abi kay and here investigations into RT but I think the editor is also now worth the sub.

The FW has produced far more practical articles looking at the implications of changes to trade and the realities of what environmental schemes will do to farming. Articles about farmers who are looking to the future have also been well researched.

They have been tackling some of the complex issues which our politicians know very little or nothing about.

The criticism of RT and the NFU has been timely, there are other organisations that control us that need looking at, APHA being one that seems to be using Bluetongue as a way of reducing livestock farming. or keeping themselves in a job.
Environment Agency and Natural England are others that no longer seem to have a function to assist farmers but work against both food production and environmental gains.

Just a hint of the beginnings of a breakdown of the "OldBoys" network.

Society has a history of slow reaction to actions imposed on them by a few who there own self interest at heart.

There’s certainly some mileage in investigating NEs prosecutions of farmers on some fairly ropey grounds. There’s a long thread on one such example on here- called NE knows best. Nothing short of scandalous.

I’m sure @AM_Arable will be pleased to read your comments.

Well done FW

I think the fact they read TFF helps them engage with what their readers want to see.

Perhaps we need a page for future stories we would like to see. The incompetence of EN and the EA would be a start. Both organisations hide behind the fact no farmer can afford to fight against them for any injustices

If you can afford it and want to do that with your hard earned money ok , but plenty will think they cant and don't want to.

I have never previously bought the FW but I've bought a few individual copies recently including the current edition. Both the editor and @Abi Kay are producing excellent journalism - good investigative journalism is exactly what we need to shine a light on the murky goings on that has our industry in a tightening headlock.

Will consider taking out a subscription at this rate!
