Replacing fan belt on TM with a front pto.

Need a new fan belt on the TM.
On our one TM it's a doddle but on the other one there is the front pto shaft to negotiate.
Am I right in thinking I need to undo the 4 bolts on the pulley and slide the female coupler up over the male spline?
There are also 2 threaded holes. Are they there to wind a bolt in to help push the coupler out of the pulley housing? If so, what thread are they? It's courser than the 4 bolts holding everything together but a standard course threaded m12 bolt doesn't seem to want to wind in either.
Or am I doing it all wrong?

Been a while since did it, but there is enough movement in the shaft to slide it back and squeeze the belt through the gap. Don’t think I did anything with the empty holes, just bars, skinned knuckles and swearing. It’s an arse of a job, but you’ve the right idea of it.

How big a job is that? The 4 bolts on the pulley seemed the logical and simplest way but it doesn't seem to want to come apart.
Four big bolts on the front gearbox are normally easier to get at than the ones on the pulley, not all are the same though, undid the ones on the pulley on my Massey and had to slide the gearbox forwards because it didn’t have enough room to get the belt on.

Definitely should be enough movement but that coupler hasn't been moved since the day it was put together 17 years ago!
Thought I'd sussed it with the threaded holes. They must be there for a reason.

Didn’t realise you had the bolts out already, thought they were cap heads hidden, give it a tap with a hammer.

There’s a nagging memory now that I maybe did screw bolts into the empty holes to get it started, if I did, it was definitely the same ones that came out and the holes were tight, but just dirty/painted/rusty so a lot of back and forth. I remember 3 bolts were ok to get at and one was a pig so I slackened what I could then turned engine a fraction on the key to get a better position.

If holes are really tight can you run a tap? Maybe not enough room..🤔

Bolts came out easy ish. Did the same as you and cranked engine to rotate pulley a big. Threads just look coarser in the holes. Probably fooked them totally now trying to get a different bolt in there!
I'll screw something in if that's the way to get it off. Just didn't want to be screwing against the pulley and causing damage.
Maybe get a good tension on the bolts and then give a bit of a tap with a persuader.

Our TM has Front Linkage & Pto, but was fitted a couple of years after we bought the tractor.
When the mechanic fitted it all together he slid a replacement fan belt over the gearbox linkage etc and cable tied it out the way, he commented that otherwise doing a fan belt replacement was a pain.
While you are doing the job maybe its worthwhile putting a spare already in position?

The wartime DUKWs ("Duck") amphibious vehicles with winches and the like powered from the front of the engine had a rack which held 3 or 4 spare fan belts clear of the front drive shaft

Always used to put spare auxilary hydraulic pump belts in MF1200 when the drive shaft was removed for any reason.

The spare threaded holes in the coupling are jacking holes, designed to be used to jack the coupler off by screwing in bolts, they should be threaded for the same bolts as hold the coupling on.

Where I work we design and build heavy equipment for offshore use, and we always fit short bolts in the jacking holes when we build the equipment to keep the threads clean.
