First off, depends where you are, and what broadband services are available to you.

Also what is 4g/5g reception like outside and inside your property??

South lincs , 4g pretty good ,5g intermittent.
Dead spots around yard where signal just dissappears, old chap wants to keep his land line . Think there's fibre to post at end of drive. Do I even need fibre for such light use.
Also aren't land lines going through broadband soon , so no land line as we know it.
Wondering if a larger tablet would do spreadsheet, best value arrangement is my thought just don't know what.

If you have a good mobile signal then it sounds like you could do without a land line altogether and that includes fibre and broadband. Use a speadchecker app on your mobile and if it’s above 100mbps it should be more than good enough for what you need. The faster the better though. Then use the money saved to upgrade your SIM to 10GB or more per month of data and use your phone as a wi-fi hotspot and pair with your laptop. You now have everything you need.

If you watch Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube quite a lot on your smart television or your laptop or tablet, or your mobile signal is poor, then getting fibre to the premises may be a better option. It will cost more but high speeds and VOIP that replaces ordinary phones may be worth it. Apparently BT are intending to switch off all copper lines within two years so your old type phones won’t work with fibre anyway. The disadvantage of VOIP phones through fibre is that your phones will not work during a power cut. You will have to rely on mobile phones in that case.

Suppliers arent renewing landlines contract as they are moving over to fibre so you might not get to keep the landline .
Come August ,mines going ,I hardly use the landline .

Simple questions, simple answers. Do reach out if I can be of further help

Need to sort job out. Got a mobile on sim only. (Ok)
Land line /Broadband . (Ok)
Only 44 calls on land line last quarter. - Are you planning to keep this going? There are free numbers you can get which route the calls to your mobile if you want as an option or going to a voicemail which pops up as an attachment. Can even get calls over WhatsApp if thats easier. No cost and a lot of peope use it these days.
Use lap top for odd spreadsheet - (Ok)
Emails mostly on phone . -(Ok)
Laptop knackered needs replacing with something . But have to do spreadsheet once a month and email it .
Not up on tech ,
What's best option ?? - Cheaper option might be to consier a Chromebook if you need a new one or can always get a basic Windows laptop for around £100 on eBay. Happy to help you with it if you need further help.
Which broadband provider ?? - Easier to go with what you have or even use the internet off your phone to keep the costs low.
What's voip ? Any use ?? - VOIP - Voice Over Internet Protocol - Used by the likes of WhatsApp for voice calls over internet. Not sure what you need and if it can be used varies.
Ditch land line and just get broadband ?? - It is an option. Else can use mobile interner even for Laptop. Depends on how much use there is and how reliable it is.

Happy to help with any clarifications. Do reach out.

FTTP contract time for renewal.
Son reports they have knocked £10 a month off the price.
Provided a EE 4G router that plugs in to the FTTP router & automatically provides a service if FTTP is down
Looks like they have opened the tap as well :D

Just the mention of BT. Sends the blood pressure through the roof 🤬🤬😘
HTF are they still in business....
I bought shares 30+ years ago.
They are worth little more than keeping up with inflation.
Yes HTF they can carry on like they do I have no idea. They have missed the boat in so many ways with bringing the internet to British homes and making electronic communications a wold leading enterprise but no they have just been under average.
