Hello

I'm about to commence a county court claim against this outfit, who sold me a tractor which was significantly mis-described. Does anyone else have any similar experiences with them?

Long story short, I enquired about a 2013 MF5410 early November 2023. I decided against progressing the enquiry (mainly because they had failed to mention in the advert that it had, had the clocks replaced!) but then a month or so later they call me out of the blue and ask me if I would be interested at a reduced price. I make an offer (£24.5k as opposed to the advertised £27.5k) on the specific basis the machine is supplied in full working order, i.e. I'm not expecting a shiny new tractor but everything must work as intended.

They agree and deliver it to me with faults including -

1) significant water ingress from the cab roof hatch due to badly corroded hinges - large amounts of water coming in whenever it rained.
2) seat collapsing (wiring fault)
3) heater controls inoperable
4) front loader grab inoperable (wiring fault and solenoid fault)
5) washer motor inoperable
6) 5 light/indicator bulbs out (yes 5!)
7) low engine oil
8) no door keys for the cab
9) hitch mirror cracked
10) radio inoperable - the water ingress had killed it

All issues reported to HRN immediately with a video showing the faults. No apology from HRN who have since shown absolutely no interest in rectifying any of the issues and claim I should have expected issues with it because they sold it to me at a price lower than initially advertised, which is complete BS as my offer was specifically on the basis it was in full working order and they accepted the offer on that basis.

It's a pain taking them to court but I think it's the right thing to do, particularly because of their fabricated claim to have reduced the price to reflect faults.

Anyone else had similar issues with this company?
You've probably a decent case if you can prove everything (especially being quiet about the clock change) main thing is they should have at least offered some solution. Everyone says you should have seen it and maybe you should, then again not everyone can spare a day, bet they're not open on the weekend. Must be a lot of people with lots of spare time on here🤷‍♂️
I bet they've read your post by now, any update?
Lesson learned, buy closer to home or send a mechanic to view.

A friend bought a Ford unseen from up north, all the many photos to be fair were spot on and showed a very clean tractor with only 2,000 hrs on the clock. but I looked at the lift arms with bits welded would have been the warning signs for me. they found out it had done just a smidgeon over what they showed a whopping 22,000hrs so a little past its best. The naughty thing was they left you to assume hours shown were correct they never verbally said they weren't. Would you buy one with all those hours of use, I certainly wouldn't unless its below scrap value.
Back in the Ford days tractors would go around the clock 9999.9 hours and back to new 0000.0 my 7810 has 3350 hours on should have a 1 in front of it

There are a lot of Mr Barclays being referred to here.
It would be unfair if the wrong one were being trashed.
I don't know who who but Netherton and hrn are different. Will be the same barclay if you go back far enough. Not sure of the family tree. Be better to state the company's which are dishonest.
Also as said they have set up alot of companies to distance themselves from it so can't really blame folk on here getting mixed up.

This whole thread is just wrong.
I’m in no way defending nor commenting on the dealer as I’ve no opinion on it.
But as usual far too many people comment with things they’ve heard and are not first hand experiences.
Then you’ve the issue of getting the various different dealers mixed up.
And once again we only ever hear one side of the story and I can 100% assure you there will be another side to every story.

But the biggest wrong is the fact the OP is supposedly taking them to court (which frankly I think will get laughed out of court) and posting the details on here. Wrong on every level imo

I’ve dealt with HRN off and on for 40 years and always found them fair to deal with. The amount of machines they turn over in a week I would be surprised if Stuart even saw the tractor.

Maybe it's just you?
Maybe they are just chancers hoping because he is not local they can get away with breaking the terms of the agreed deal with limited come back. If poster can show evidence of the agreement and give good account of himself in court, ime, he will recover his losses. Woman who worked for me took VW to court over a new Tiguan with noisy gearbox. She had previously had a golf with same issue and VW changed gearbox so verbally agreed with salesman if Tiguan had same issue they would change no questions asked. Judge hammered VW finance and awarded damages for all her trouble, she still had to send "can't pay we'll take it away" boys into Milton Keynes HQ to recover the award plus costs.

Seems very sad that dealers like this cant be trusted, and misrepresenting good in order to achieve a sale is not acceptable or legal, and those responsible should be held to account, but surely with the community on here we could help each other out.

I drive past the gates to one of HRN's depots every day on the way to the day job..........

Well I've bought quite a few bits unseen, lower value (to most) incl several balers, all ok except the one from north of the border, got no response, really only wanted a donation towards parts costs, baler stayed a long time, sold to a friend and still rolling. but had been bodged originally.

They are all the same. I had a fault with my quad so I put it in to HIS Inverness. They put a new CDI unit without consulting me which did not cure the problem. I was hopping mad as amongst the various things I had tried, replacing the CDI was one of them. HIS would not give me a refund and I now have two perfectly good CDI units here as 'spares'.

So I decided to try HRN as they are 'only' 150 miles away. They fixed the problem which was a broken wire, but charged me over £1,000 which was probably for the apprentice's time farting about and learning at my expense. Sometimes this far north you just have to bite the bullet and pay up. As the scrappy said when he towed away my first car, "Experience is worth what you pay for it".
