This will be my first year selling lambs for market, not a massive amount for sale either. Living in the carmarthen area what are my options other than marts?
So I lambed inside this year a small amount and once lambs were a few days to a week old I've put them in the same field as 1 ram. So far he has completely ignored them and everything has been fine. Just wanted to know other people's thoughts/ experiences. Thanks
After a couple of calfs, never dealt much with cows but think they would suite running infront of my sheep. Would you recommend weaned calfs or calfs that still need bottle feeding? I wouldn't mind them some what friendly either. (Potentially halter trained as wont get many) thanks
So I've purchased some wrapped hay, how long does it last after being opened?? Amateur question I know but still don't know the difference between haylage and wrapped hay? I always assumed that wrapped hay would ferment as its bound to have enough moisture in it to ferment. I have always just...
Might be a stupid question but, I've heard if hay is dry enough, if then plastic wrapped it will stay as hay not haylage? Is there Any truth to that. Or will plastic wrapping cause sweating ect. Thanks
So probably been asked a few times now but. If I wanted to keep ram in with ewes until end of February ( due to lamb beginning of march ) would feeding lamb creep be an OK substitute for ewe nuts. As I'm aware that you can't feed ram ewe nuts, obviously isn't going to give the same nutritional...
What's the rules on broiler chicken dispatch, butchering, and then sale to general public? Doesn't seem to be an abbotior around that will process chickens for me. So makes me think you don't need them to process small amounts of chicken for private sale. Wanted to do 10-20 grass fed broilers for...
Ao I've got around 20 sheep that can go down my neighbours land for a while. Its a 6 acre field. Will my sheep even in winter be able to graze that down before Christmas? Sounds like a stupid problem to have but wouldn't mind bringing them home around Christmas time and leaving them home for...
I've got two kerry hill lambs (8months roughly) with really mucky back ends. Rest of the flock is alright. Wormed last week with albex 2.5 and fluked mud July. They are on slightly over grown land which they have grazed well, but rains been pretty consistent so it's wet. Thoughts? What do i need...
So have a 4 acre field the sheep have been taken off a couple days ago, plenty of grass on it still but has a few weeds and rubbish on it needing topping to bring it back. Sheep won't be back on it now until december for winter grazing. Should I top it this week or leave it till next spring. ...
I have a small mixed flock of welsh badgers, herdwicks and kerry hills. Wondering how these breeds sell well at mart? And if I mix with badger ram would they still go OK for meat at mart. Thanks for help/advice
Picked up a few 4x4 round hay bales today. Out of curiosity how many small square bales are in one 4x4 round bale? Sure someone has done the maths. Cheers
So I have a welsh badger ram who is 4-5 years old. Neighbour has a very large garden (about half of an acre) and has asked me if I could put a couple of sheep on it to save her mowing. Only trouble is all my other sheep are a few miles away grazing and the only sheep I have available here is a...
Just curious to see if anyone leaves there ram on its own, and if they manage OK like that. I did have a wether with mine but recently died. If my Billy goat was bigger I would put him in instead! Cheers
Have a small flock of welsh mountain ewes. Two of the ewes have both sides sunken in. They don't look thin but compared to the rest it's obvious. Nothing to worry about or should I look into it? They are on long grass at the minute but there is plenty of short grass coming through for them to...
