Selling lambs newbie

This will be my first year selling lambs for market, not a massive amount for sale either. Living in the carmarthen area what are my options other than marts?

Deadweight if you are farm assured..

Direct to end user is possibility if you have a local abattoir and a good population on your doorstep. But dont underestimate the extra work and make sure you charge enough to cover you time.

What's your system, you selling fat or store?

May be easier to sell all as store in one go, late summer strong stores are pretty near fat trade anyway

Yeah, that's what I'd do, get them as good as you can
Nice to get on well in the stores rather than below average in fat

Probably best idea. If you want to sell fat you'll need a VAN number to meet the new rules and that cost me best part of £100.

Only about 12. I'm after convenience really but I guess with convenience comes a much lower price per kg isn't it..

Works well for non-spec breeds, market you can end up giving them away.

What breed?

I would recommend the market unless the breed you have is very alternative. As a newbie it gives more outlets for your stock plus you can get a feel for what customers want. It’s also a big plus to be able to gauge how your stock compare to other people’s.
I found selling at market very helpful when I was starting out.

I've found it pretty good as long as you're sensible with your prices. For instance if you've got small, feral, primitive, non pedigree sheep and you're asking the same money as well grown, pedigree charollais etc you aren't going to sell them.

I have a few breeds but mostly welsh badger. But also have a few mixed breeds
