Having just fished out an upturned bullock out of one of our big concrete troughs I'm thinking of changing them (also not the best to clean out). What would be the best alternative, batch sizes are between 20 & 30, no bulls. Concrete or steel? Wall mounted or on floor standing?
Hi, I think I probably know the answer to this but thought it try the forum and see if I’m missing a trick, I’m trying to work out the most efficient and effective use of our FYM from the cows and calf s
Cows run loose in a cubicle shed with their calves in a bedded creep pen. The cubicles are...
Our Ag dispenser is belt, just blown the auger motor, which we’d upgraded a few years ago to deal with sand. The belt also has bearings whenever we replace the belt, but is really fast on fresh sand, as I removed the slide years ago.
Thinking of keeping this one as a spare and getting a new one...
We used to be all cattle on our farm , only 50 Angus cross, wintered from nov to May they just couldn’t pay so we went all sheep.
Just reading various threads on sucklers etc and I can’t see how we could make them work, however we do have a 100 x 50’ shed plus a 90x30’ lean too, mrs L has a few...
Ok folks, I will be grateful for any and all input, with the caveat that brand loyalty isn't my strong suit.
I'm currently running a Ford 7740 with a loader that was never really fit for purpose. Loader has got to go.
My main tractor is a JD 6620 without loader. It has been giving gearbox...
I'm in the very early stages of considering a new milking set up (still at the stage I come out in a cold sweat when thinking of the cost) I think the best solution would be a rotary for the usual time efficiency reasons and to provide a great environment to work in. I'm currently milking 330...
I work on a family farm, probably not milking enough cows for the amount of staff we've got, but now the winters here It's a struggle to fill the days with work. Usually jobbed up by lunchtime then it's a few hours until pm milking.
Probably start hedgelaying soon but thats barely worth it.

This is an outcome of the Optihouse project, which examined different aspects of calf house design on 66 farms across Northern Ireland.

Next year we are 70 cows, Spring calving. Buffered maize in dry spells and turnips/kale over the winter, out pretty much every day for a few hours. Unfortunately even though we try to keep everything simple we still need a loader tractor, just can't see how it's possible without making life...
I am looking for a small loader around £12-15,000, for scrapping up, bit of light mucking out and feeding out bales. Seen a JCB 135 that looks sensible, but will I regret it and wish I'd got a telehandler?
now im putting a new kero system in a barn would like the tank next to my derv tank (low side of existing agri buildings) then pipe across yard into house, any problems with this,
as i read it should be a foot deep with some sort of media to prevent crushing could easily duct it to be honest...
