We've a 90' by 30' round roof grain shed and same size lean to sharing a drying tunnel with above ground laterals to blow spring barley and rape, only use 1 in 3 laterals normally as we have moved to mobile dryer. Shed is sound but tipping is impossible in the lean to and everything is put up...
I have about 6t of osr in a trailer that was cut after the wheat so not been able to go through the drier. Been ok till now but starting to get some tiny pink mites in it. Will the k-obiol do any good. Any other ideas. We have some pedestals but the pile is not big enough for them to go in.
Having a major over haul in the grain store this year.... New roof going on and I've bought fan for all 8 pedestals......
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a control panel or way of economically?
Is the barn owl system any good?

Prioritising crop quality in the grain store can provide a multitude of benefits and doesn’t have to be an expensive investment. CPM speaks to a farm manager who’s installed a new system to reduce labour and put crop quality first.

Hello, I hope somebody can help me with this. My family own a small arable farm in East Anglia. Since my dad died we now contract all the land work out to our larger neighbouring farm, including all the spraying. We no longer own our own sprayer.
We do however still purchase the chemicals and...
For 30yrs+ we've perservered using pile dry pedestals in our bulk grain store.
It's a 70wide 90 long bulk store split down the middle, with the dryer front centre, and a door to either side of the dryer. This makes it a bit of a chew pushing the heap up, but we manage. There are no overhead...
Thanks Andrew. I respect your honesty.
I’m sure a few at the top table of the NFU didn’t want you to say all that. It gives quite a different perspective on the meeting when compared with Minette Batters vlog.
How do you remove warm air from your grainstore/s that is being sucked out of stored grain by pedestal fans?
Do you just have large vents at eaves height in say every other bay and at both ends?
Or do you have large fans on the vents to suck /push the warm outside?
Store size in question up to...
I do some contract combine for a guy who grows around 250 acres of wheat, he just stores it in 1 shed with pedestals and has no drying facilities.
Some of the grain came in at 18%, and he asked me whether he should put a space heater in the shed to dry the air for the pedestals to get the excess...

A larger combine can be preferred to a new drying system, the extra output making it more feasible to wait for ideal cutting days and sub-15% moisture, however, coping with incoming grain can be challenging. CPM learns how a pair of...

Of the stuff which ha been cut already this seems to be the picture countrywide, from the Borders to The Highlands. There are a lot of disenchanted farmers out there already keep an eye on your neighbours have a chat! The price discrepancy between...

Good morning all,
Just after some opinions on pre harvest store treatment. We used to have a contractor come and drench the stores with what was essentially a big pressure washer. It’d fire up in the roofs and leave no area untouched. This approach filled me with confidence as you have the...
Let’s start a harvest 23 thread! So how far do we all think we are from starting? Winter barley rapidly ripening here early start is on the cards. First week of july maybe, rape just starting to lose its greenness also!
