I'm in Gloucestershire. Zero grass, unhappy ewes, lambs not growing. No access to any extra grazing. Feed prices doubled....no stock of hay. Can't see the grass recovering for winter 🙈.
Does one just accept it...
would now be a good time to direct drill some red and white clover into mainly silage fields cut 3-4 time a year to add some extra protein capabilities next year , added source of N and thicken the sward out a bit. also with summers becoming dryer the red should keep a needed bite with deeper...

Why is this never discussed? Why is it always farming land that has to be re-wilded?
Is it because a lot of the people who support re-wilding also like horse riding. Surely a hobby shouldn't carry more weight than feeding a nation?
So one way or another this seasons crop is grown.
Some might of bought fertiliser early at sensible money.
Some might of used less.
Some might not of used any (me! Grass for haylage. Luckily had a carry over from last year.
Some have been lucky with the weather and grass has grown well without...
Basically below is our 3rd cut, due to the dry weather has all gone to seed, hardly worth bothering to run a mower over it let alone a contractor.
Now that there's a little rain in the forecast will it grow and come to anything? Or does the seed head have to be removed?
