I despise these clubs that ask for exclusive rights to farmers land. It's ridiculous to ask that and damn right segregates the majority of detectorists who either can't or won't join made up groups where there is ALWAYS someone skimming money. What makes a club think it has the right to do this? Say I turn up solo the week before or after what am I going to search thoroughly in a day? Maybe 2 to 3 acres at the best. These clubs are ruining the hobby and I say this as a individual detectorist from the 1980's. They use this trick to gain land for there own personal use after any events have happened and go as and when they are able. They don't offer all finds as that relies on all his 50 people turning up handing them in, what he's stating is just fantasy at best that all understand the code and so on. It's utter tosh. I know first hand how difficult it is to gain permissions and have lost permission due to these greedy groups. I went to a farm recently that I've been on for over 30 years, he allowed a rally they left every field with craters here there and everywhere. Upshot was he now no longer allows anyone on including me. Any farmer even remotely thinking that this is a good idea please re think, there's honest detectorists who will show you EVERY item found. These groups need stopping asap imo.

Sounds reminiscent of ‘some’ Shooting syndicates out there, the owners take all the cream at the start and guided days to get the cull figures sorted and then sell off syndicate spaces to lads who unfortunately don’t know better

It probably is. There's literally 1000's of detectorists who just love to go out on their own or with 1 buddy. 99.99% of the time it's no more than a walk digging up cans and junk, but there's that 1 find that then makes it all worth while. What these clubs are doing is isolating the real people who detect and play on those that can't get any permissions to detect due to the very club they're joining. They target high find areas and expect hard working farmers to agree to their demands for a fraction of the real money taken. These clubs need stopping for the good of the hobby and the folk that have been detecting for years and years that wouldn't dream of asking a farmer not to allow anybody on.
