Whatever way you look at it, it seems ridiculous to me, when they put those type of figures in the press for jo public to see I think it paints the wrong picture of our industry!!

Without checking, I'm pretty sure it would be a long way back in real terms on some 1950's (?) prices
£260k doesn't buy a whole lot of house, while there's been times when some beasts would've paid for whole farms if i recall.

you can't expect them not to...
I'd be quick to point out the disparity twixt that and, say, race horses.
Cattle are part of an established significant global market, but the dearest one in the UK was only worth £260k. What's wrong with the industry?

NB I can't see the value myself. Recorded Holsteins, with all the genetic potential available maybe.
But what figures are behind this beast?
I'm pretty damn sure I can't value a beast to such a level.
