Nice Discovery 2, very local to us, good tower (downhill) with the renowned torque free td5, speed limiter fitted (but I can't find it), racing chassis (ferrous oxide dipped), thief proof in car entertainment ( no thief would want it). Black dog hair trim, weekly valeted (but still can't get rid of the smell). At £3K, delivered, you'd probably get some luck money and I my friend would scarper.

Hypoid/10/40 tracker system thrown in free!

Don't believe the nonsense about certain vehicles being 'bomb proof' and lasting almost indefinitely. Once they get to a certain age and after a certain amount of use, partly dependant on how they were driven and serviced but not exclusively, they will break.

For one thing the rust will get them. Chassis first. If not rust then the example of next door's lightly used high milage current-shape Navara with a chassis broken in half is an example. Now its head gasket has gone. Scrap time I think.
There comes a point where these pickups are between 10 and 15 years of age that they can be far more cost than they are worth. At 10, I would seriously value most pickups as near zero value. Get given one and you have some spare cash to keep them going for a while, but there are very few indeed still on the road at 15 years of age regardless.

IMO as the Duck say's rust is the biggest killer on Jap 4x4's making them difficult and often expensive to repair. That's were an old Disco or Defender can score, all the parts are easily available and at reasonable cost. However, you will probably need to open an account with Paddock's or similar.:D

That's why I'm thinking of Jimny, terios, pinin lines rather than a "proper" 4x4. I don't need towing, long distance or heavy carrying capability. The chance that the above vehicles have been towing a cattle trailer are very slim. Not the sort that most owners venture off road with either. I'm not bothered by image. It's a tool to do a job. I'm still swaying to the Jimny as it ticks most boxes.

Darren if your thinking terios type car. What about Suzuki SX4 or fiat badged sedici. One on auto trader. Or was 45 k miles 2/4wd plenty poke anicecomfotable ride and bit bigger than above but handier and more economical than big 4/4 s. Mine goes like stink. Get close to 40 t gallon with heavy boot Go try one you might like them might sell mine if I move. A few on auto trader a blue on at Euro cars Leeds. 3 k same as mine. Cost you 280 for egr dpf and remap. Transforms them.

I hope you have driven one. Its not the vehicle I would want to drive much further than 5 miles from home. Try to get a Vitara at least.
We are all different and want and need different things, so go with what ticks the boxes for you and sod everyone else.

Get a Jimny, forget spending 3 k, spend bare minimum with a ticket and throw it away if it fails the next one, same again year after.

I looked at a Pinin/ Freelander/ another Fourtrack but found the Vitara on the Swopz web site.Only going to tow a motorcycle trailer so small is better and as said save money and just get another when its goosed .I know the greenlane destroyers will buy the Vitara with no MOT

How about another Trooper? At 3k you'll get a fresh one at that..

Hyundai Terracan, not pretty or overly refined but not a bad old thing, and well within budget..

A few years back the obvious choice would have been an old Disco. Sadly the days of a decent disco at 3k are long gone.
True - I was beating mine with a stick at 6am this morning as the alarm is seriously playing up even when the battery is disconnected etc. Have bought 2 at about 2 grand now. Both have had similar problems. When they get too expensive too get through the mot get another one though seriously thinking of getting something different/newer next! They are good when they're going and not costing money/down time but I guess that's the same for any vehicle :ROFLMAO:

OH traded in 15yo Jimny for a newer one. Old one had absolutely no rust on it at all, after a powerwash underneath it was almost showroom condition, (a few dings on the top) compared to 15yo Disco with every panel showing rust even roof and a lot of holes, its last MOT fails ran for several pages. :(

Have had 3 of the dreaded 3.0 troopers all bought for less than £1500 getting very hard farm usage couldn't fault them never spent more than £200 getting through the test .
