‘The interigation of Tony Martin’

I think what you have to bear in mind is that what you heard was Martin's version of events, which could well have been a pack of lies.

Certainly neither the prosecution, nor the jury who heard all the evidence, believed him.

And of course the forensic evidence contradicted what he claimed happened.

The prosecution case is that he was downstairs lying in wait for the intruders when they broke in, having been alerted to their approach by the dogs.

He wasn't driven by fear as he claimed. He was driven by anger and resentment and self entitlement.

He is one dangerous, unstable individual. I wouldn't want him living near me.

I doubt that he would want you living near him either. Such is life.

Before you make blanket statements just get your facts straight. The persecution of Gypsies in Germany goes back further than Hitler with the first laws passed in Bavaria in 1926. Additional laws where implemented by Hitler later as part of the "Master Race" policy but where not specific to Gypsies as it also included Jews and Negroes.

I presume your referring to The Law against Dangerous Habitual Criminals passed in Nov 1933 which had it been applied in T Martin case the burglars would have already been removed from the streets due to them being Habitual Criminals. In which case T Martin would have carried on with his peaceful life.

I'm suggesting that when Tony 'there's nothing diminished about me' Martin voiced his support for Hitler's treatment of Gypsies he had in mind the Porajmos which saw a quarter of the Roma population exterminated by the Nazis as part of the Holocaust.

Is farm crime a problem in Essex
Horrendous as far as I know. From folk I have spoken to it seems to be very difficult to actually apprehend and return items stolen.
Generally pikies and immigrants get the blame but I would guess there are others involved as well. On man I know actually tracked his own Landrover and chipper to a yard in mid Essex. Could see his property and phoned the police. As usual (and probably due to lack of numbers) response was slow/poor. Man with his ex marine mates said he would go in on their own account. Police the soon arrived. Goods recovered (but only because of quick time scale) and Landrover had about 1k of additional tools in the back. Yard operator got off not charged ''Someone else must have parked the Landrover/chipper in my yard''.

Yes its a bit of an issue. Touch wood our farm yard personally doesn't seem to be a target as were a bit hidden away, everything's well locked up, well lit, CCTV and neighbours quite close to the yard. But hare coursing and fly tipping is a nightmare round here. Nearly every field entrance round the area has been gated or blocked in some way, ditches dug etc to keep trespassers out. If you have large fields with no gates on now you will end up with visitors pretty quickly. If the fly tipping isn't in the field gateways they just tip in the road and go....unbelievable.

Come off it Fellowfeeled, you started straight in on this thread already prejudiced agin TM (a farmer who shoots already being on your sh*t list).
You're a bigot, never mind what stupid remark TM may have made.

My contempt for Tony 'there's nothing diminished about me' Martin is nothing to do with him being a farmer.

It is to do with him being a racist, dishonest, obnoxious, violent weirdo.

....... who had suffered numerous robberies, alone in his isolated farmhouse, and eventualy shot the culprits of the latest attempt which happened in the middle of the night, I believe..

Mr Martin may be all the things of which you accuse him. I wouldn't know. But facing burglars in your own house, alone and at night, must be a very frightening experience.

If they hadn't broken in, they wouldn't have been shot. And I can be fairly certain, they didn't break in to share his bedtime cocoa.

Fair comment I suppose, I feel that racist, dishonest, obnoxious, violent weirdos should feel safe enough in their own homes to sleep without a shotgun under their pillow in their later years

Yes perhaps that old saying about walking a mile in someone elses' mocassins is relevant here...

Which leads me to REPEAT the unanswered question - have you ever been burgled, @Fallowfield? How about an answer this time?

Then there is the interesting question of what has turned Fallowfield into a dishonest, evasive bigot, clearly with a vicious streak from his clear loathing of farmers and his lack of empathy with animals, including a willingness to kill cats, (a bit like Hitler; don't think he liked cats!), and a lot of argument in favour of continuing to allow badgers die horribly of a foul disease and to accept -indeed to cause - lynx attacks on sheep and deer.

I had trailer stolen when we were doing a grain store this spring near west Horndon
They were determined, it was onsite down a blocked off and locked Lane with concrete panels left across access
They got in behind some crash barriers, dragged panels out of way and away with trailer even changing number plate. Police just asked if there was cctv and gave me a crime number
My suggestion to have a look at the pikey camp at Basildon fell on deaf ears !!
Went towards Tilbury one day. I was astounded by the amount of fly tipping down the country lanes
