……if I wasn’t a farmer, what would I be?

If you are going to farm then you have to consider if there is a better way.
(I know I have posted this before but I can't remember where.)

Many years ago the dearly beloved and I were holidaying on the island of Paxos which is where the Ionian Sea meets the Aegean Sea. It is a very beautiful island and has many olive groves on it.

The olives apparently give some of the best oil that is available. It is a premium product that is in great demand.

The trees very old and we were told that they had been planted by the Romans (?!) - so not a lot of land work.:)

The local old crones run their goats in the orchards to keep the grass down - so no herbicides or fert needed.:):)

As part of their rent the old crones spread nets under the trees, collect the fallen olives and take them to the crusher - so no labour or machinery needed.:):):)

And after all that hard work you have produced a premium product that the merchants will come to you asking for.:D:D:D:D:greedy:

I think I could cope with being a Paxos olive grower.

I was also a test engineer in the automotive industry!! First few weeks on the track were great and then it got a bit repetitive, plus you have 4 days of data analysis for each day driving to do as well.
Know what you mean there.....
Currently work part time as a composite laminator, making bits for f1/LMP cars plus other one off bits. Was exciting when first started(full time), but that wears off! Got to a team eventually but going part time and scaling back from it best thing I did.
Not to say if wasn't a farmer that's what I would be doing. Probably abroad, working as a laminating contractor.
