12v water pump

Currently using one of these solar pumps to water an outlying block if ground.
The 12v flojet pump is a real pain in the arse though as any air gets in then it airlocks and pumps away until it is red hot and knackered. Just wondering if anyone knows of a more robust type pump set up for moving water to a 35m head and 850m.

I had same problem with air lock on that type of pump for sprayer. I put a tee piece with a tap on it so I could release the air.

The other thing I have found is if you have grit in the liquid it stops it pumping and I have to disassemble to clean out the silicone seals/ valves. Easy to do, just fiddly and a pain in the bum when you want to get on with a job...

We have the tee piece in but the Problem is that it’s a few miles away from home and when we go to shepherd the pump has been going for 24hrs and is red hot. We have a good filter in so grit has never been a problem yet.

Ask yourself where the air is coming from, and why. Treat the cause, not the symptoms. You don’t get air ingress to submersible pumps. I’d reckon you’re trying to pull the water rather than push it, and that’s a no-no for many pumps. Check the pump spec to see how far it can pull, or just get a submersible.

not being an expert on electrics but whats the 'smallest input' cheapest (reliable) inverter that can be got? dc to ac would mean a far bigger choice of pumps.

What about putting in an automatic air vent? Maybe like the ones used in central heating systems
Bottle air vent from screwfix about 7 quid!

As has been said above, using an auto-air vent inline as well as a simple filter to trap any debris may save you a lot of headaches.My advice with pumps is always to consult a proper pump engineering firm such as Seal & Pump Engineering and pay for the best quality pump you can. Money up front always saves heartache with pumps.

Totally agree with this. Have one on the canal boat and there is a reason why there used just fit anf forget.

I’m in the process of cobbling together a solar pumping set up, and I’ve gone with a Shurflo pump as they offer an option of an aluminium cooling fin that slides over the top of the pump to reduce heat and enable continuous duty cycles. In theory whether pumping water or dry running, but we shall see....

decided to hand the job over to local pump guys in the morning. It’s filling the troughs but not building up to 6 bar when they are full for some reason so not knocking off. Personally think pump is not man enough but I have wasted enough time buggering on with it, time to let the professionals in. They rigged up a 240v system that pumps all over the main farm and has done faultlessly for 10 years so hopefully they will know of a better solution as the company I bought it from has been hopeless tbh.
